Does anyone know if any of the taxis have access to child restraint seats? Or what about private drivers with vans? Any ideas?
You'll be lucky if the taxi has seatbelts :)
Never seen a baby seat in a a cab usually the seatbelts are never used either just your typical get in and hang on kinda ride if its a priority for you maybe you shoild consider taking one with you .

As a matter of fact, it is uncommon to see any children in car seats ... held in the lap on scooters - standing up on the seats - with their heads out the sunroof ....that's typical here.
If you want a child seat - bring it with you!

I always say a little prayer, wish for a little good karma and that the powers that be on that honking dashboard shrine get us there in one piece.... safely..
Hola.
Recently on an airplane we saw a couple place a baby seat (with baby) between them and secure it with the seat belt. It turned out that they would be driving at their destination and wanted to make sure that a baby seat would be available. The child looked very comfortable as he slept like a log during the flight.
Hope this helps. Your questions are always welcome.

Ironically it is law for people in the front seats of a vehicle to wear seat belts and for children to be "properly restrained". At least that is what i have been told by a friend who is a cab owner/operator.
Not uncommon to see a load of kids and adults going for a Sunday drive in the back of a pick up. Yesterday i saw a VW type van pull up to the curb and counted 22 people/kids.
Rarely do you hear of accidents involving other than impaired drivers. And, on that note, there are now random breathalizer checkpoints. .05 and over will get you a 5400 peso fine, possibly off to the slammer which will cost about another 3000p to get out and the vehicle may be impounded which is another bill to pay.
Hola Pedro.
Yes, we have heard that for about a year Mexican authorities, especially around Oaxaca de J. have been enforcing the seat belt (drivers must use them), cell phone (drivers cannot use them) and the speeding (posted) laws.
Hope this helps. Your questions are always welcome.
