Mr Cocks Street Bar is no more .

Dont see it mentioned much in this forum ,

But his street bar has been very popular for years , and a part of Ao Nang .

Apparently , he has been told to move on , from Authorities .

Sad I reckon , unique character he is , I always enjoyed a beer or two there .

Although you and many others may regret it's gone, you have to see it from a different view, as well. He blocked a very narrow pedestrian way, people could hardly pass and consequently, for others it was a nuisance. Further, he conducted business, sold alcohol without having the required license and didn't pay rent. But in order to keep his business running, he most likely had to pay the common bribe to some influential people. Actually, the authorities announced already one year ago, they no longer tolerate business on the pedestrian ways. Many restaurant owners had their tables and chairs on public property too and were ordered to vacate it.

Yeah I understand all that , I liked the street vendors too ,

Perhaps because for me , it makes it unique and so different to my country ,

Remove the carts selling street food , mr cocks , put in more and more glass front shops so it starts looking like a western country shopping strip ,

Thats progress I guess , and others will disagree but I personally preferred it how it was.

Good old Mr Cock. He has been an institution for us expats for many many years. Like him or loathe him, he was part of the furniture of Aonang. I have heard he has a launderette (!!!) on the way to Krabi. Shall pop in for a cold one with him one of these days.

What devastating news, so many amazing memories with Mr Cocks. Where might we find him? And where will be the best place to party in Ao Nang late may early June?

He has a laundry in chong pli. Went to see him the other day and he wanted to pull some chairs up and have a beer but the heavens were about to open so had to dash off.
