Cheap restaurants in Nassau/Paradise Island

Hello all!

We're leaving for Bahamas 5/27 and wondering if any of you know some good, but quit moderately priced restaurants in Nassau or Paradise Island? Can you have lunch or even dinner around 10 $/pp somewhere? What about some cheap drinks (with or without alcohol), how much do they cost? Is there some great placa where you can buy sodas etc. This is our first trip to Bahamas (we'll be staying at Comfort Suites) and we're coming from Finland so any information would be really appreciated.

On Paradise Island, there are a couple of cafe type places to grab breakfast and lunch. Both the News Cafe and Choosey at the Hurricane Hole Plaza have sandwiches / salads etc.. There's also a Quizno's fast food place on Casino Drive.

Zio Gigi's has personal Pizza at a reasonable price, they too are at the HHPlaza. Green Parrot Bar and Grill at the Hurricane Hole Marina also has pretty good pricing for casual dining.

In Nassau, there are quite a few places that have good value.. especially for lunch, Iguanas, Cafe Havana and Athena's all have moderately prices options. There's also Cafe Skans (luncheonette) and even the Hilton has burgers under $10 at the beach grill.

For local food at GREAT prices, check out the Fish Fry at Arawak Cay. This is a small village of local casual restaurants with the freshest and tastiest food around at rock bottom prices. Here's a sample menu.

Since most of the more reasonably priced venues are in Nassau, plan your Nassau Dining when you visit for shopping or other tours so you don't pay the extra taxi fares.

Taxi's from Paradise Island to Downtown Nassau should only cost $8/9 for 2 ppl. This can save you quite a bit overall.

If you are up for an adventure, head over the easternmost bridge (and under the bridge) to Potters Cay. These are a group of fish shack with fresh fish dinners, Conch Fritters, conch salad and cold beers. Great to mingle with the locals and enjoy cheap food and beers. They are open most evenings .. as one of the locals which days' they are cooking. I think Monday/Tuesday are mostly closed.

As for drinks.. pick up your favorites at any of the local liquor stores.. they are everywhere, and liquor is cheap. Keep it in your room, or bring along a flask or thermos. Lots of people do.

Again, drinks are usually less expensive in Nassau, (with the exception of the Green Parrot which has cheap drinks). Stay away from hotel bars.. they are the most expensive.

Hammerheads has cheap drinks, Bamboo's downtown and the Fish Fry has reasonably priced drinks.

Lots of options.

Here is a link to some menus for various locations around Nassau. You may find something interesting.

In addition, the "fish fry" on West Bay Street has local cuisine - and not to be missed.

I guess I should have read all of scubagrrl's post first as I added the same site as her. Hope you find it useful anyway.
