Long Island Safety?

Long Island Safety?

I’ve seen the U.S. State Department’s report on the Bahamas and I was wondering if Long Island is considered safe? We’d be staying around Cape Santa Maria if we went. Basically, is violent crime commonplace on this island? Everything I’ve seen talks about Nassau, not the out islands.

Absolutely safe! We have a house near Cape Santa Maria and in 50+ years have never locked the doors while we are in residence! Nassau does have crime issues, but Long Island is a completely different world.

Also, are you aware of the Cleveland connection to Cape Santa Maria? Tom and Hossie Jones from Cleveland were the original developers of Cape Santa Maria in the 1960s, when there was very little development on Long island.

It is considered safer as it is a much smaller place with about 3000 people who live on the island compared to like 250,000 on Nassau.
