Help with trip planning for February, 2022

We are just starting to plan our February get away and thought the US Virgin Islands would be fun to explore. We are an active retired couple in our 60's and enjoy hiking, snorkeling and exploring beaches. Our dates are from February 6th to February 27th but can be tweeked. We definitely want to go to St. Johns and explore the National Park but were thinking, since we have never been there, to stay a week at each island. Since we are so unfamiliar we weren't sure what is the best location to stay to be close to doing the things we love. We like to stay at cottages or condos and would love a pool. We are planning on renting a Jeep to get around but not sure how that works. What are your thoughts on this and how easy is it to get from one place to the other? We haven't booked anything yet but want to asap. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you are thinking of staying a week at each island, which is a great plan and you have enough time, you should look into flying into STT and flying out of STX. You can make your way from STT to STX by ferry or regular plane or seaplane. Seaplane would be a fun adventure! I would do it in this order, STJ, STT, STX. You can do the reverse but it is easier to fly out of STX than STT. STJ requires a ferry ride from STT which is easy to do. I would go to each island forum for recommendations, but reserve cars early. You need a jeep on STJ but nowhere else. For STX accommodation you should look first at Cottages by the Sea, but no pool. They are already fully booked for Jan. Next to Cottages is Sandcastles which have two pools. Those are both on the west side which have great beaches and if is windy, it won't bother you as much.

Also, Feb is school vacation week in the northeast so if you can tweak your dates you might get better prices on flights. If they are really expensive, that is probably the reason. For car rental on STX look at Centerline or Judi of Croix. Both are great. Can't help with the other islands as I am a STX convert.

Thanks for all the info on St. Croix. Not sure we will make it there but if we decide to go this will be helpful.

St Thomas and St John (no "s") are separated by a short ferry ride (passenger ferry 20 minutes, car barge 30 minutes) and combining the two is very simple. Most visitors who stay on St Thomas take day trips to St John. You can rent a car (a Jeep or 4WD isn't necessary on St Thomas nor for a day trip to St John but you do need a 4WD vehicle if staying on St John) on St Thomas and take it to St John but if you rent on St John you can't take it to St Thomas.

There is plenty of beachfront accommodation on St Thomas but not on St John. I'd suggest you go to the dedicated St Thomas and St John forums, read all the general information on each in the drop-down menus and then go through the forums for more info. That'll give you a good start.
