What is at Salt Mills Plaza?

Is there any shopping or restaurants worthwhile at that location? Would the local restaurants (Hemmingways, Iguana, etc.) be just as good, if not better, than anything there?

The Saltmills has a very nice art shop (gallery), an upscale clothing store, a liquor store ($10 for Cave Rum, the local stuff as opposed to the IGA's $17), Iguana which seems to have some seafood dishes, steaks and chicken all from about $18-$28, The Saltmills Cafe, mostly sandwiches, coffees and burgers and Bambooz Bar and Grill which has happy hours, serves pasta, pizza, burgers and some chicken dinners with maybe some seafood, reasonably priced. We looked at all the menus but did not eat there. We seriously considered Iguana since the menu looked good but since we stayed at The Sands and we were looking to relax, we just walked the two minutes to the beach from our room and ate at Hemmingways. The location is far better at the beach than Iguana and the prices were a bit better too. We just got so relaxed you might call it lazy and four out of our seven nights we ate at Hemmingways. We always eat at a different restaurant each night while on vacation but we uncharacteristically stayed put this trip. I guess that's to the credit of Hemmingways. Five more minutes down the road you will come to Ports of Call shopping plaza which has a few moderately price souvenir shops and Barefoot Cafe, great drink list, Calico Jacks, very casual pizza, pasta, etc. and Twenty One North.

Caicos Cafe is also at Ports of Call. We loved it there! Excellent fazoletti (some italian seafood dish that was written up in WhereWhenHow magazine so of course we had to try it) and Shrimp Caicos which we didn't have but keep hearing people talk about how good it is in reviews. Great outdoor seating with huge trees - very pretty.

Buyer beware. My daughter picked up a bracelet at a beach stand right outside Beaches Resort for 8.00. We saw the "EXACT" same bracelet at a Boutique at the SaltMills for 50.00.
