Check with your TA, they are usually included in your airfare. We have never paid a separate tax.

Hi justamazing

Check with your booking. I am sure your arrival tax is included in your ticket.

I have paid departure tax, having travelled with First Choice last 2 years. It was US$ 20, £16 or JM$1800 two months ago. Make sure you have the correct change, as I was not given my change.

Enjoy your holiday.

Regards,

RandB - this OP is in the UK.

Unlike USA travelers that have all taxes included in airfare - UK travelers DO sometimes have to pay the departure tax separately, in cash.

Thanks nevsgal, I was wondering if the tax differences was based on airlines or departure sites.

Hi justamazing

Take some US$ cash in 1, 2, 5 and 10 notes. You will need this for tipping which starts at the airport.

I have the Immigration and Customs form. I will e-mail it to you so that you get familiar with it.

Take a blue or black pen for filling the Immigration and Customs form.

Enjoy your holiday.

I'm still confused about the arrival/depature tax situation.

Heading off to Jamaica soon and wondering what the REAL situation is s. Flying with Thomson from the UK on a package holiday.

Know before you go from the UK FCO says arrival is 10$ US and departure is 1000 $Jamaican and this website claims to be up to date at 10th November 2011.

http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-liv ... ca/jamaica

However there’s a website called Travel Weekly which says that the arrival tax is doubled to $20 US starting November, and departure tax is 1800 $ Jamaican (approx $21 US)

http://www.travelweekly.com/Caribbean-T ... w-markets/

I contacted First Choice, the UK tour OP and they directed me to their website which doesn’t mention any arrival tax but says the departure tax is 20 $US.

http://www.firstchoice.co.uk/sun-holida ... and-visas/

Some websites say the departure tax is payable in Jamaican dollars and warn to beware exchange rates charged. Other websites say it is specifically charged in US dollars.

This trip advisor link say there is NO arrival tax - which contradicts the UK FCO advice.

tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g147309-c151864/Jam…

Does anyone know the CURRENT REAL facts?

I’ll take a pocketful of currencies just in case so I’ll personally be OK

– but this possibly might be a significant issue for larger groups or families.

Hi

Cannot remember paying departure tax in Jamaica, been many times with Virgin Atlantic.

We are also flying to Jamaica via Gatwick to Kingston on Sunday.

Have a great time.
