Bahia Principe Punta Cana - Royal Golden Section

I’ve been to Punta Cana a few times but this is my first time at this gigantic resort complex. We are going in November 2018 booked through Air Transat, leaving from Ottawa. My questions are the following

- Where is the Royal Golden Lounge?

- Are there enough beach chairs on the beach or do they run out?

- Do people tend to reserve beach or pool chairs with shade super early in the morning?

- Are there waiters on the beach? What is the service like?

- Are there washrooms close to the beach, are they kept clean?

- is the Royal Golden section laid back or party party section?

- have any of you done a late check out from the Royal Golden section. Is this a hassle or are they accommodating? Our departure flight is 11:30 pm

- where is the casino located?

- is there a vendor day where local vendors set up in a section of a resort to their things like sculptures or jewelry

Sorry lots of questions but I would appreciate any information you may have

Thank you

Sylvie

I stayed at Ambar Green last October. Many posters on this forum love the complex and return year after year. However, this resort was not for us. We spend more time at the beach than at the pool. The beach area is very small for a resort complex this size. The Ambar Green has access to the adults only beach, we went down every morning at about 6:30 am to find seats, we could never find loungers closer than about the 10th row. My suspicion is that many people never removed their towels etc the night before and therefore their seats were saved.

That being said we did enjoy the rest of the resort, but being beach lovers we will not return.

BTW it was hard to find seats with umbrellas at the pool also. We saw many people reserving seats at the pool at 6:00 am.

We were there in May and never had any problems getting loungers on the beach or around the pool as long as it was before 10.30

Sylvienix:

Firstly - here is the link to the most current resort map - when the link opens, click on the map itself for easier viewing and note the convenient legend at the bottom of the map:

resortsmaps.com/map-GrandBahiaPrincipeComple…

The Royal Golden Lounge is located on the far west end of the Grand Bahia Punta Cana main lobby. It is shown on the map as the dark green #6.

There are certainly enough loungers at the beach, however, it is a small beach area considering that it is the same beach area occupied by the guests of the Grand Bahia Bavaro, the Grand Bahia Punta Cana and the Grand Bahia Turquesa resorts.

There are three pools that you can use - the largest being the large beach pool (map black #15 and the two smaller pools half way into the resort - next to (map yellow #6 and green #7) - all with swim up bars.

There is no difference in the Royal Golden Club rooms to any of the other rooms throughout the entire resort - it primarily is the room location that is different – they are located closer to the ocean and are room buildings 1-10, 20 to 22 & 24 as shown on the map link below – the other amenities are 4 a la cartes versus 3 for non Royal Golden Club guests, room service (no breakfast menu), Welcome Letter and a bottle of rum in your room, beach towels, bathrobes and slippers in room upon arrival, turn down service at night, access to the Bavaro resort’s lobby and lobby bar - excludes the main lobby buffet, free printed press, a private lounge exclusive to Royal Golden Club guests, and free hard wired internet access for 15 minutes per day per guest and free in room safe.

Checkout time is 12 noon and check in time is 3pm, unless the room has been vacant from the previous day, in which case, guests can check in prior to 3pm.

A late checkout is available, using your current room, unless the next scheduled guest to be using your room is arriving shortly by 3pm. If no other guest is scheduled into your room shortly after the check in time of 3pm, or is arriving on a late flight that evening, the opportunity is very good that you will be able to obtain the later checkout in the same room you are currently in.

If you do have to vacate your room and if there are any other guest rooms available in the resort, then it is very likely that the resort will relocate you to the unoccupied guest room.

The resort does ask, that any guest wishing to have a late check out, to check with the front desk, no sooner than the early morning on the day they are to scheduled to depart, in order to verify the availability. The reason for this is simply that rooms are not actually designated to arriving guests until late the previous night or first thing in the morning of your departure day.

It is more common for guests at the Esmeralda and Ambar resorts that there will not be any additional charge, but be prepared to pay approx $10 per hour past 12:00 noon. The latest that a late checkout is approved is 4:00 pm.

If you remain at the resort after 12 noon, the Bahia does provide an area where late departing guests may store their luggage and be able to shower/change, as they still retain their wristbands and may continue to use all of the facilities, pools, snack bars, buffets until which time they actually leave the resort for their return trip home.

The casino is located in the very popular Bahia Principe Village (see map black #2).

There is a local vendor day and it will be stated on your Activity Listing schedule that you will find in your Welcome Package envelope along with your wrist bands, resort map, room cards etc or you may obtain a current copy from the Guest Services staff located in the main lobby of the Grand Bahia Punta Cana resort.

You may also wish to read the information at these two links also found on the right side of this Forums page under the heading of "Top questions about Punta Cana" -

The first one explains the entire resort complex by each resort:

https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g147293…

The second one lets guests know how, when and to whom one can email the resort prior to arrival to "request" room location and or a la cartes prior to their arrival:

https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g147293…

Hope this does help you Sylvie.

Hi John,

Oh my goodness, you are amazing! Thank you so much for the information. I will start looking at the links. The last hotel we were at was the Chic Punta Cana. We were not impressed with the ultra modern Vegas pink neon style. We also noticed a lot of things, were not free. They played north American music , it just did not feel right. The rooms in the Bahia seem more traditional, we hope the atmosphere is closer to the Majestic Colonial where we got married. Crossing our fingers, thank you again for the information : )

Sylvie,

How very thoughtful of you to say this - truly appreciated.

I fully understand what you are saying with regards to some other resorts. I would definitely say that the Bahia would certainly would be more to the "feel" of the Majestic resorts.

Have you considered the Luxury Bahia Ambar or the Luxury Bahia Esmeralda resorts as referenced in the links I provided ?

If you have any additional questions, just ask, we are all here to assist wherever possible.

Hi John’

Yes I was looking at the Ambar Aquamarine which was around the same price but it’s no longer in the Air Transat distinct collection, at least that’s what the Transat rep informed me and suggested the Punta Cana cause the Royal Golden plus Distinct collect inclusions our we figured why not. ( I think distinct collection is what they call it. )

Have you been to all of the hotels on this resort? I’m currently concerned with the amount of walking we will do to get to the buffet and basically anything. I guess we will need to use a tram but, if it’s anything like at the Bavaro Princess, there will never be enough trams but the path seems to be straight from the lobby to the beach at the Bahia unlike at the Princess we ended up getting lost in the maze of paths in the middle of the resort heading towards the beach...lol The reviews for the food seem to be great so a bit of walking will not kill us :)

Are any of the restaurants by the beach open for breakfast and or lunch, that would definitely make things more convinient.

Thank again for your quick responses

8. Re: Bahia Principe Punta Cana - Royal Golden Section

Sylvie,

At this time I notice that the Grand Bahia Aquamarine is still listed by Air Canada Vacations, however it is listed on the Itravel2000 booking site under the Luxury Bahia Ambar Green. In discussions with the resort last week, they have not designated a tour operator for the Aquamarine as of yet.

We are booked into the Luxury Bahia Ambar Blue resort for November 7 and so looking forward to seeing the changes there first hand.

As you likely have seen in the link I provided you that explains the resort complex, there are a substantial number of extra features when booking anyone of the "Luxury" branded Bahia resorts.

We have stayed in 6 out of the 7 Bahia resorts in their Punta Cana complex with the Luxury Bahia Fantasia being the only one we have not booked. We have been taken on a tour of it and if we had young children, that would be precisely where I would want to take them ! It truly is remarkable.

The main buffet is a fair walk from the Royal Golden Club rooms, depending on which room building number you are booked into - it would be a maximum of 15 minutes. The tram system is very efficient, and operates for 21 hours per day - the tram you would take would operate along Ave. Esmeralda or Ave. Espana. It lets you off at the tram loop in between the Punta Cana and Bavaro resorts just below the Tropicana Theatre - very convenient.

You are correct on your thinking - as large as this resort complex is - it is rather easy to find your way around as basically everything runs east-west (just keep the little fold up version of the resort map that will be inside your Welcome Package, with you just in case - LOL !

None of the a la cartes by the beach are open for breakfast or lunch - they are only open for supper. However, there is the pool side snack bar called the Piscis (map dark green #14) right next to the large beach side pool that serves breakfast starting at 8 am - this location is also the overnight snack bar (opens from 11 pm to 6 am) - yes,, draft beer and wine is available. The Piscis is also open for lunch so that you don't have to go back up to the main lobby buffet. If you are an omelette lover, they do not provide those at the Piscis, just at the main lobby buffet.

In addition to the Piscis pool side snack bar, depending on the occupancy levels at the time of your stay, there are two more beach side snack bars you may dine at for breakfast and lunch - they are called Las Olas l and Las Olas ll (map black #9 & 10).

Just so that you are aware of the Bahia dress code - Here is the Bahia resort dress code policy for all of the a la cartes and main buffets - this covers all of the 7 resorts in the complex - with the exception of the "gourmet" a la carte’s called the "Don Pablo", “EL Olivo” which are located at the Luxury Bahia Ambar resort & “Le Gourmet”, located at the Luxury Bahia Fantasia resort. (Note – as of May 1, 2017, no guests from any of the other Bahia resorts may use any of the facilities at the Luxury Bahia Fantasia - this property is entirely exclusive to guests from the Fantasia resort itself.

No bathing-suits or sleeveless shirts or open toed shoes - dress shoes or a nice sandal is acceptable. Dress shorts, long pants, long or short sleeve shirts for men are fine - ladies are good with shorts, capris, dresses, pants and certainly open toed footwear, as are the children.

Here is the dress code for the “gourmet” a la carte’s (which are the Don Pablo, EL Olivo & Le Gourmet)(PS - none of which are available to guests of the Grand Bahia Punta Cana, Bavaro or Turquesa resorts - including Royal Golden guests) - For men, long pants or trousers are acceptable (including jean pants) - shorts or sleeveless shirts are not acceptable - long or short sleeve shirts are acceptable- no open toed shoes are permitted - dress shoes or a nice sandal is fine. For the ladies, any shoe is acceptable, but not swimming sandals - flip flops as they refer to them.

For the buffet, open toed footwear, including flip flops, dress shorts, pants are permitted for all meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner - bathing suits or sleeveless shirts are not permitted.

You will find that many men will wear a pair of kahki long pants to dinner and the ladies very often are dressed in capris or a dress. "

The reservation receipts which guests are provided to confirm their reservations, and which are required to gain entry to the a la cartes, may say something different, however, the above is their actual policy.

Hope this does assist you.

John
