Bringing food into Bonaire from US

What are you allowed to bring into Bonaire from the US in the area of food? We are two couples who like some specific things for snacks and stuff that we would like to bring with us in case we can't find them down there. What is allowed and what is not?

Not a problem with Customs in Bonaire if you are bringing food for personal consumption. Make sure you check with your airline though if you are planning on packing the food in a cooler.

So. Can you even bring in fresh food like cheeses, meats/steaks etc.?

Yes, you can indeed take cheese and meat. However, you may want to be sure to pick up some Dutch gouda while in Bonaire!

I know you said that there are certain things you like but with the cost of extra luggage many Bonaire regulars are no longer bothering to bring food unless they have food allergies, etc. as the grocery stores usually have a good variety of items. Some people even make a game of figuring out what some things are since they can't read Dutch!

I would recommend bringing ONLY the food you must have..otherwise indulge in Dutch cheeses (Warehouse), Belgian chocolate (Warehouse), Argentinian beef (Warehouse), Ecuadorian organic produce (More for Less) and more....don't forget fresh fish as well...the Mahi Mahi (Dradu) is sustainable and tasty.... (Dooie Diaz next to Richards Restaurant)

I don't eat meat but the tenderloin is said to be amazing...

Thank you for all your advise. We will be only bringing the bare essentials and look forward to sampling some of the local fare. We are getting excited.
