car rental and hotel location

We're planning a girls trip to Barbados in April and expect to stay at the Hilton. Is that a good/central location? My daughters will want to do some nightlife. Should I rent a car, or are Uber/taxis readily available/ My other choice for accommodations is the Bouganvilla Hotel. Is the latter worth the additional cost? Thanks.

Boug is closer to the St. Lawrence Gap centre of nightlife on South Coast. The Hilton would require taxi to get to even the closest nightlife. Look at the various hotels in the Gap then they could walk to all the clubs.

I’d agree- Hilton is a bit out of the way for nightlife. Bougainvillea is also a taxi ride away but much closer. I’d suggest having a look at Ocean 2 in St. Lawrence Gap for a lovely, modern hotel within walking distance to nightlife. Dover Beach is also lively with a lot of little food places nearby during the day so plenty to do right outside your door vs Hilton and Bougainvillea.

What is most important to you and roughly what ages are your daughters? The hilton has much going for it -- beach and pools -- is on and part of one of the best beaches in Barbados with many great day spots to stroll and for them to have fun. (Hilton is not cheap for drinks/food). There is some great local spots right next door to eat (cuz's for fish cutters and brown sugar) along with some on the main road. You have lobster alive on the beach. You have harbour lights right almost next to you where most young adults party the night away and a quick run into bridgetown to the waterfront cafe for jazz. They could still take a taxi to the st.lawrence gap for a night out as well. Bougainvillea is a very nice resort but you actually have a bit more directly around you in walking distance at the hilton. If a beach is really important with lots to do on the beach and do not mind big properties you will be happy with the hilton.

I forgot to mention the hilton has a couple of great theme nights for dinner that are quite good and reasonable. Also, depending on the age of your daughters they will love the action and much to do on the beach right next to Hilton referred to as carlisle bay (pebbles beach and browns). You can walk a long distance and not one big hotel beyond the hilton.

No need to rent a car unless you want to explore on your own for a couple of days (2 would be plenty), but be aware they drive on the right side and the roads are busy and in need of repair (as most places).

There is no Uber in Barbados at all but taxis are readily available at the hotels (Hilton has its own rank and they are always on call at Bougainvillea) and if you’re in a nightlife area taxis are a dime a dozen once you walk out the door.
