Is it better to rent kayaks from H2O water sports or somerset if we are coming from the dockyard. We are beginners so nothing to challenging. Thanks
A third choice is the FANTASEA kayak rental location on Ely's Harbour, at the WILLOWBANK RESORT beach--
But...to answer your question...it's pretty much a toss up. The whole of the western shore is well sheltered by the same broad, offshore, coral, barrier reef system...with relatively smooth/flat water along the entire stretch. The entire stretch, from Mangrove Bay-to-Ely's Harbour/Somerset Bridge is only four(4) miles of so
The H2O Watersports rental location (next to the Mangrove Bay Wharf at the seaward-end of Cambridge Road) will be located approx.550 yard walk in from the regular bus stop for the #7 or #8 bus routes from Dockyard (2¾ mi--8-10 mins..$16-$18 taxi fare). The H2O location on Mangrove bay will put you a bit closer to INNER & OUTER ISLAND-- https://tinyurl.com/y82gt8pv ....and the '..VIXEN..' wreck, off of the Daniel's Head promontory-- https://tinyurl.com/y9tnmwkg.
Renting from Somerset Watersports or the Fantasae location at Willowbank will be a shorter walk from the bus stop for the #7 or #8 route bus stop, to the rental locations(100-200 yards...approx.5 miles--18-20 mins. from Dockyard). Ely's Harbour will be much closer to PALM ISLAND-- https://tinyurl.com/y7bth2f6 ...and CATHEDRAL ROCKS-- https://tinyurl.com/yar9cvpd --there's also usually pretty good snorkeling around Jobson's Point at the northern entrance of Ely's Harbour (off of the Willow Bank Resort).
But from either location, you'll have well sheltered easy paddling to any of the attractions along this shore. Heads ya' win...Tails ya' win. (try 'n get odds like that at Suffolk Downs or Foxboro)..
