Just learned the government has instituted a 4.5 per cent tax on all private rentals In our case adds $150 approx to next years trip money that would likely have been spent in local businesses Have to hope they don’t kill the “Golden Goose “

YUP....the VACATION RENTAL ACT 2018 is law and there will be an additional 4.5% tacked on to the rental charge...just as there is 11.75% Government Hotel Tax & Tourism Fund charge added to all commercial guest accommodations (hotels & guesthouses) now. With success come tax.

P.S.....The new 4.5% VACATION RENTAL FEE becomes effective on private rentals for, "...new bookings made from SEPTEMBER 1, 2018...".. So if you've already booked your rental BEFORE September 1st, 2018 you're good. After September, the amount of the rental is subject to the 4.5% fee.

"...When will I need to start collecting the Vacation Rental Fee from guests?

The BTA requires the fee to be collected on new bookings made from September 1st 2018 onwards. Therefore, any bookings made before September 1st 2018 will not be subject to the 4.5% fee regardless of when the actual visit occurs.."
