Staying at Melia Benoa, would love area advice

we are honeymooning and staying in the most basic room with breakfast. we love traveling and prefer to experience the place we are staying, but haven't had great luck with "local" residences, hence, why we have picked a bigger resort.

as we aren't utilizing the all inclusive (tho we may upgrade for a couple days in the middle), we would LOVE suggestions on places to eat, bars, clubs, markets and shopping, unique activities like dance and cooking classes and balinese shows, scuba diving, sightseeing... really, anything you can suggest.

of course, we are doing our own research, but any personal tips and advice you can suggest would be awesome!

Well congrats on your upcoming wedding - and Bali - an awesome place to start an new adventure.

The Melia Benoa is a great location - it is at the start of the Tangjung Benoa Peninsula, and has a great beach. The beach is onto a lagoon - with lots of watersports activities, and a great path to walk along.

You are located quite close to Nusa Dua - so you can go in either direction.

Tanjgung Benoa has a bit of a village feel- in that the hotels are mainly on the beach side of the rd - and the shops, bars, cafe, spa and restaurants are on the other - with the local villages living behind their business's.

So out on the rd - there is the usual range of markets - shops cafes etc.

Nusa Dua also has a great shopping centre called Bali Collection - lots of shops and places to eat, and a great market nearby as well.

Cooking Class - Bumbu Bali - is awesome - and really educates you on the local way of life as well - google Bumbu Bali -

There is some cultural shows at Nusa Dua and Uluwatu Temple - which is fairly close, and worth a visit.

Jari Menari massage is just over the road from the Melia - best massage ever!!

Can recommend Meads, Queens Tandoor and Bumbu Bali in Tanjung Benoa for great food. If you want an upmarket treat, try Sakala.

Have a wonderful honeymoon.
