what town

What town should we stay in? We are interested in eating and shopping and easy beach access. We will be going to Florence one day so somewhere near there but not as far south.

Newport has everything you are looking for. Easy beach access, plenty of shopping and lots of restaurants, and it is not far from Florence.

Newport is one of the most popular destinations on the Oregon coast. There are lots and lots of restaurants in all price ranges. There is shopping of both the big box variety as well as lots of small individually owned shops. There is the beautiful bay, museums, the Oregon Coast Aquarium and more. All this also means that it is a busy town that is congested in summer. No, the traffic is not the same as a huge city, but there is only one main road (Hwy 101) and virtually everybody uses it.

Beach access is easy but many of the lodgings are up on a bluff with steps or a trail down to the beach, so consider if that will suit your family.

It's a scenic drive of about an hour down to Florence. Be sure to stop at Cape Perpetua (drive to the top!), Heceta Head, and some or all of the lovely day use areas.

Newport is where you want to head to. Between Florence and Newport is the best scenery along the Oregon coast and half way in between is Yachats, a small art colony/tourist town. Newport, as previously mentioned, has a little of everything that you would want to see in an Oregon coastal town.

Seaside has easy beach access and there is an outlet mall there for shopping. Lots of good places to eat there also. www.seasideor.com :)

Lincoln City has resorts with easier beach access. and it has the outlet mall with many shops.

But newport has a lot more to do, and it has several places with easy beach access, but mostly driving distance from motels
