Best currency to have?

Hi,

General advice needed please...

we are visiting in early Jan and just wanted to know whether it is best to change money in the airport into SL rupees or wait til we can get to an exchange?

Also is it best to have SL rupees or dollars as we notice this are quoted in many prices?

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Quite unusually, the banks at the airport actually give the same rate as the banks in the rest of the country.

As per all the previous posts on the subject, completely pointless having $US's rather than Sri Lankan rupees

It is best to get LKR from cash machines as needed.

There are cash machines at the airport.

We are planning on taking a debit card and changing into rupees at the airport. Will banks accept funds on this debit card to get rupees or do I need to hand over sterling notes? We will also be taking a MasterCard. Thanks

If you have a debit card then get cash (SL rupees) from an ATM. No time wasted exchanging money.

All answered in link from #2. Nope, debit cards are for machines not for human-staffed counters.
