Few questions from 1st timers

Hi, We are a couple arriving in Karon early December for a 2 week holiday.

Not planning on doing too much but relaxing on beach/poolside, probably take in a few local trips but nothing extensive. Realise there are no sunloungers etc on beach now and don't really fancy just lying on towels, anything portable to buy over there which would make it more comfortable?

Also wondering how much we should budget for eating out every night with a few drinks (British pounds) and also any must do/must see ideas for us without travelling too far. What is the local market like?

Any info much appreciated!

Helen

Millions of beach goers lie on towels. Thats normal.

Do some kayaking and snorkelling tours.

Hi Helen, we enjoyed the local temple market which is on Tuesday and Saturday evenings from about 5pm onwards.

There is also a market bazaar which is open every day/ night on the beach road. We got things like dvd's, (Secret room in suitcase shop LOL!!) hippy pants, backpacks, runners etc there.

I don't know pounds but meals ranged from about $5 - $8 aud. The cart food at the temple market was great and cost about $3 for heaps!!

On the way to the Temple market - YINGS restaurant is on your left - same street - and was VERY good and good value.

Have a great trip!!

Oh one more! we loved going to see Big Buddha, didn't really like dino mini golf in Kata, loved the Gibbon Rehab Project but didn't go on island trips as we were there in July and it was rough.

The best market you find in Phuekt Town "Naka weekend market" - here is all the things that you did not know you needed when you vent there....

Here is something for everyone.

They have lots of food stalls, really nice food.

Its every Saturday and Sunday start from 4pm to 11pm.

A good idea if you rent a taxi/private car you can visit Chalong temple and Big buddha on the way to the temple and the driver will wait for you while you are shopping and tasting all the great food at the market.

Have a nice holiday!

We stayed at Access Resort in Karon, all rooms were pool access - a fantastic hotel and not dear. We loved the Elephant Restaurant nearby and found we spent $10 aud per person for 2 gin/tonics, a starter and 2 main meals, thats about 6 pounds. Wherever you stay buy alcohol in the 7/11's for having a drink on your balcony, much cheaper than at the hotel bar/mini bar. Not sure about the beach situation but have heard that some people are buying small cheap fold up chairs over there to use during the holiday.

Hello Helen. A couple of places to look at for trips etc are:

Go to "Things To Do" up the top there, and after looking at that go to "Activities" for ideas and traveler reviews.

Another website worth a look is cathyandgarystravelpages

All the best,

Mark.
