How much cash will we need?

Hello all

As it seems so important now to bring sufficient Euros and not rely on debit or credit cards, can anyone help me estimate how much we'll need each day?

I can estimate things like car hire, day trips so really just interested in roughly how much we would need for food. We are self catering so will need to buy provisions for breakfast but will eat lunch and dinner out every day. We are a couple with one 3 year old child. We would probably have a couple of beers or some wine most evenings and if course ice creams most days!

Any rough guide you can give for food spends is appreciated!!

We are a couple, and generally work on about £1000 for a two week self catering stay.....sometimes it's less, sometimes a bit more.

We generally eat out , but we do have some balcony nights, with beer wine and salad/ cheese whilst taking in the views.

A lot depends on your individual circumstances and style, it is possible to get by on much less. beer in a bar can be variable between 1.50 Euro and 4E......depends where you choose.

I would guesstimate 35-40 Euros will buy you evening meal including wine/ beer.......but a gyros in your hand and a few beers in a bar will be considerably less.

Hi!

Thanks BlodwynLancz! That helps.

We're going for 2 weeks. Paying for our accommodation when we arrive but know how much that is. So just food I'm not sure about budgeting for.

it's around 2.5 euro for a small beer , 3.5 for a large ,around 2.5 for a large house wine, imported drinks are more expensive.A meal for two with a couple of drinks is between 30 - 50 euro depending on what you have and where you eat. A gyros is around 3 euros ,a toasted sandwich , a roll etc between 5-7 euro ,large pizza around 10 euro.

Be sure that the prices being given here are for Agios Gordios - from what I've read on TA, it is a little more expensive than some resorts.

Are hotels and apartments wanting cash payments too? Also the original question touched on would they need cash only, so I'd like to know if cash points are ok or not? We're arriving end of August

End of August is too far away the situation changes weekly. See next week if a deal comes thru banks should THEN open in 10-12 days and all should be back to normal for the TOURIST !

I actually came back with money last week and always eat out, apart from drinks/ nibbles/ fruit in the apartment. Prices are very competitive this year I noticed.

Hi all! In AG now and price estimates were spot on, thanks. Mind you, cash points are working and no queues for them - business as usual here!! Seems quieter than we expected so I think some holiday makers must have cancelled. Such a pity as absolutely no reason to!

Love it here, will definitely be making it a regular destination for us!
