September is the best time to go. The temperatures are great, but you may bring a fleece for the evenings (it can be windy). The sea is still warm, and you are out of the peak season.
a week ago we had a great lunch at a small no frills beach taverna near Mikra Vigla...on a sheltered bay with a few sunbeds in front...can't remember the name......food was great and Inexpensive....temp last week was 35c in sept it should be cooler.....we stayed in Naxos last Sept and the temp was better not as hot.Edited: 03 July 2012, 18:40
sheltered bay, near mikri vigla, could have been Paradisio in Kastraki. Try for sure taverna Axiotissa in Kastraki, its the yellowish house on the main street towards Alyko
