We will be visiting Tokyo in Mid Dec & staying at hotel metropolitan Tokyo ikebukuro. Would like to know if there are places or good eateries nearby we should drop by?
Thanks in advance.
Ikebukuro has plenty of shops and restaruants. It's quite a happening area so you won't lack choices for sure. Just walk around the streets, shopping malls and department stores for places to eat. Look for ones that specialize in one type of food.
Ichi is a nation-wide well known ramen place:
Mutekiya is another popular ramen place:
Maguro Ichiba is a budget place for fresh sashimi rice:

Your hotel is much much better than Sakura Hostel although it has a good Ikebukuro map.
don’t worry, just a lousy downtown in Tokyo. however, never call Bukuro: I used to change train at Ikebukuro station long time ago. Department stores are confusing: Tobu (East Boo) is located at the west exit of the station. Seibu (West Boo) is located at the east exit of the station.
Call Hama for Yokohama. Bancho (the leader of a group of juvenile delinquents) of Hama is a veteran pitcher, almost the age of retirement.
Thanks for all the info given!
The Japan Traditional Craft Center is located in Metropolitan Plaza, at the south end of Ikebukuro station. It's worth a visit--sort of a blend of a high-priced store and a museum.
There is a lot of shopping in the department stores adjacent to the station, and there is more shopping between the station and the Sunshine City complex.
I don't visit ikebukuro much but when I do go my two stops are milky way cafe and namja town for weird flavors of ice cream. Milky way cafe is an ice cream place too but you get Huge pretty decorated parfaits.
