Walking around Carenero Island

I'm trying to get a feel for how big the island is to be able to walk to various surf breaks and restaurants. Does anyone know how long it would take to walk from one tip of the island to the other tip?

Carenero is about 1.2 miles long. Oriented roughly SW to NE. Its easy to walk from the SW end to the NE end along the eastern side of the island using a combination of trails and beaches. There are surf breaks on this side of the island as you approcah the NE end. I've never tried to walk the western side of the island.

It took me about 1 (or a bit more) hour to circle the entire island. One needs to follow the shore, except the NE part where it is better to take a jungle trail (fairly easy).

Walking slowly the part of island with village, homes, restaurants, hotels, (SW tip, S and partially E - from Careening Cay Resort/Marina Carenero to Bibi's restaurant) takes about 30 minutes. It could be done faster of course...

Attempted this a couple of days ago. Pretty easy going up to the NE point, then tricky going. Easy to lose the path, plus steep descents and ascents and slick red clay/mud. Apparently there are poisonous snakes but we saw none. We finally gave up at Cosmic Crab and got a water taxi. We’d been gone a couple of hours at that point. Leading up to that you end up walking along concrete private paths.

Just completed the trail all the way around the island about an hour ago. The trail was beautiful, easy to follow, and not strenuous at all. We did it in the rain while wearing flip flops and it took us an hour and a half including a 30 minute stop on a beautiful bluff. No offense to the person above me but to give up on this trail you'd have to have very low willpower or be extremely out of shape. There were about 3 small hills to go up and over on the NE end, one of them was a rocky, slippery slope but it took all of 30 seconds to go up and 30 more seconds to go down. Highly recommend!
