Small Connecticut roadtrip

Hi, on our way through the US on a RTWT we thought we would stay around Mystic for a few days to just rest up a bit ... thought we could take a couple of daytrips around the area returning to Mystic of an afternoon ... any suggestions for 3 to 4 hour drives? We may get the ferry over to Long Island on our way to JFK to return the car so anything worth looking for there would be appreciated also. We only have three days in total not including our arrival day. Scenery would be the goal followed by quaint little towns. November is the month so not looking to swim at the beach!

Thanks.

You might want to ask on their forum of the Connecticut forum. Roads trips is mostly for multi state travel altho you may get some responses from people familiar with the area.

I agree to post in the CT forum.

An area to consider visiting while in Mystic is Newport, Rhode Island.

If you have an interest in touring a nuclear submarine, the U.S.S. Nautilus is open for tours in Groton, CT, not far from Mystic.

P.S. I have often read on this forum that rental car contracts prohibit travel on ferries.

Don't take the ferry over to LI just to head to the airport, only do it if you are going to spend some time on the tip of Long Island

Weather may dictate choices.

Providence RI is a great foodie town if that is up your alley.

Plimouth Plantation and/or Historic Deerfield are nice options if you are interested in living history.

Northampton (a bit south of Deerfield) is a lively town with good dining options.
