Washington to New york by train

We will be staying in Alexandria and will be going ont New York by train, would it be better to get on in Alexandria or travel to Union station and cath the train there. We would prefer to sit together, We will have 2 large cases to carry around with us. So therefore looking for an easy option.

Depends largely on where the train is coming/originating from. The train through Alexandria will be coming from the south and more than likely subject to delays. If it is not a through train to NYC (I.E., have to change to a Metroliner or Acela train), I would go to Union Station and take the train from there.

Trains are much more frequent from Union Station.

Take the metro or taxi to Union station and the train to New York from there.

Book in advance at www.amtrak.com if there is a particular train you wish or need to catch. Reservation is compulsory.
