RTW trip planning starting now, go Jan/Feb 2014

Hello everybody,

as mentioned above I am planning a trip around the world starting in Singapore, then Eastern countries like Cambodia, Borneo, Bali, Australia, New Zealand. The route is not definite. My preference would be to travel with a partner around my age 50-55+, in two it is just more fun and perhaps more secure. If someonein the forum reads this and has the time and the interest to do such a trip, it would be nice to hear from him/her.

490 If you want to risk picking up someone from the internet you would probably have more luck posting on the country forums.

Solo Travel Forum is really about travelling solo.....so the least likely place :-)

Or check out one of the websites mentioned on various threads here which specialise in finding buddies.

Also keep in mind that the countries you have picked would mount up to much more than 2 months in order to visit them properly on a RTW trip. Also, none of the countries in SE Asia that you have mentioned are actually sharing borders which means you are going to need to fly a bunch. I would consider the following.

Singapore 4-7 days

Bali 7-10 days

Borneo 10-14 days

Camodia (5-7 days) - but would suggest that you skip as its not so easy getting to/from Penon Pehn from the other destinations you've mentioned other than Singapore. And its quite out of the way of all of them.

Australia (2-10 weeks)

New Zealand (3-12 weeks)

Keeping this in mind, I would suggest reducing the number of places you want to visit so you can get a better feel for the few that you decide upon. Or I might suggest reconsidering your destination choices, going with something a bit more conventional like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and then Bali. Lastly, if you are fixed on these destinations, which is fine, you'll need to really do some research and decide what exactly you want to see and where you exactly you want to visit within each, this is particularly the case with OZ and NZ which you could easily spend all of your time.

These are fun dilemas to have and I hope you enjoy your research and trip planning.

Possibly you could start with a map as what you're describing is just a trip from SE Asia to Australia/NZ not an RTW by any stretch of the imagination.

Also Borneo is an island compromising Brunei, Malaysian/Indonesian Borneo while Bali isn't a country but one of Indonesia's many islands.

As has been mentioned this is the solo travel forum, much better (IMO) than having to make compromises to accommodate a partner plus you meet way more interesting people traveling solo!

abuelo_13 is correct in the strictest of definitions..... but in the end, who cares what it is called? Some call it a gap year (even when traveling just 5-6 months), RTW trip, globetrotting or simply backpacking. In the end, it doesn't matter and changes nothing.
