What luggage to bring while solo travelling?

Im going to Hawaii and staying in an AirBnb not downtown.

Should I use a luggage or a big backpack?

What do I do with my belongings when i want to go in the water.

Im thinking i need a small packpack for hicking and beach going, and a suitcase i can leave in my airbnb.

Any other tips?

you are asking on the wrong board, but i have attached several links for you.

soem unsolicited comments/thoughts/hints

- consider if this is a 1 off trip or 1 of many. If its 1 off, then bring what you have. But if its 1 of many, you may benefit from investing in some travel clothes.

- what you want to carry your stuff in is up to you. Again, if this is a 1 off trip, then use what you have. If its 1 of many trips, then look at what you buy as an investment. What you decide to buy is a crap shoot. Its why there are so many choices out there. If there was the "Best" then all you would have is 1 to choose from. Its not like you cant buy 1 and try. Do you have anything like a 2nd hand store where you live? you can look there for used and so you dont dump alot of $$ into something you may not use.

- whatever you do, learn to pack less. I use a 50L pack and get by for 1 month. Dont forget that they do have laundry machines outside of Canada. So you can do your laundry.

- People dont care if you wear your clothes more than once too.

- having a day pack can be a solution, but as you ask, what about when you go into the water. They do make waterproof bags you can take with you, but in my opinion, i would take as little as possible.

- with regards to your AB&B. is that on the beach? will the owners be there too? can you leave your keys in the AirB&B and then get them when you return? many questions, but you know where and what you are doing, you can ask them since you know the details.

- If the key is a real key and not an electronic key you can use some string an tie it on your wrist or get a waterproof pouch to carry with you.

other will chime in too

good luck.

Google waterproof pouch for swimming. They come in lots of different sizes. In it you put you key, money, credit card and phone ( if you must take it to the beach). The rest of your stuff you leave on your beach towel. Do not leave anything that you cannot afford to lose.

Yes - small backback (very small like a book bag size) that you use as your carry-on luggage on the plane, then as a day pack for your trip.

Yes - to a small suitcase on wheels (20-22" is big enough) that you leave where you stay.

Where in Hawaii are you going? Which island? Which airport? Which city?

I'm guessing you are going to Oahu and staying outside Honolulu/Waikiki? Is that correct?

I always took a day bag with me, but when going to the beach by yourself I think the best advice s not to take much with you and don't take anything you don't want to lose.

Always have a padlock on the bag you leave at accomodation. Even in hotels I lock mine.

At Hawaii last visit 18mths ago was a 3 night stopover in Honolulu. I must have a swim before I go, so on my last night I walked along the water to the hotel for my early bird dinner...cheaper if you are in by 5pm. Had a big steak and salad bar. Then walked back to waikiki beach. I had put my bathers on in loos after dinner and a beach throw over dress.

I found a nice little beach which was crowded at about 7pm, and stood there wondering what to do with my bag. I had been shopping with a few things, my wallet, camera and credit card in there. So I saw a romantic young couple and asked how the water was..cold etc...are you having a nice holiday type chat.they were Americans and very polite saying yes Ma'am. So I said, hey I think I will try a quick dip, would you mind watching my bag? I chose them because there was clear view from the water and kept an eye on my bag. The water was so refreshing. After being here 3times, finally a swim as the stingers were here once before so no swimming. All went well with my bag. They waved to me in the water.

Take a small day pack you can zip up and put a lock on. But get one with strong stitching. Try an op shop. Plenty are given to charity.
