Holiday September 2015

background: every few years parents in law babysit for a week in September so we can go away

Last time was vegas 2013, v tempted to return there as love the place but feel we should go somewhere difference

So now looking for somewhere for next year - Blend of nice weather, safety, sightseeing and nice hotel pools. Open to anywhere but maximum flight time 10 hours

( have got 100k of airmiles and likely a free flight voucher coming from my ba Amex to use up)

Hello atkarth,

Welcome to the Holiday Travel forum.

See 'How to Use this forum' (section C.2)

For most helpful responses, there is more information forum members will need (ie. your travel budget, where you are flying from, etc.). Make sure you describe what you mean as nice as well as this means completely different things around the world . ;-)

Look forward to your updated post.

The Carribean is still in "hurricane" season in September, so not ideal.

So... why not fly east rather than west? Thailand, including the islands, Bali or Vietnam? Hotel standards are very high, and although flight prices are more expensive than USA/Carribean/Mexico, (and the flights longer too), the actual in destination costs are very reasonable, especially for food, drink, shopping, spa's and either car hire or hiring a driver and car.

If you didn't want to fly long haul, then Greece, Cyprus, Italy, the Turkish med coast, and the Dalmation Coast are highly recommended with hot weather, good food and a wealth of things to do and see. Hotel prices will have started to drop even for 5 star, especially if you can leave it until after the school term has restarted.

+1 on investigating SE Asian destinations if you can tolerate a bit longer flight. Thailand, Bali and Philippines would be my first thoughts, followed by Vietnam and Malaysia. You can fly directly to Bangkok, rest for a night (or two) before onward transport to the beach destinations in southern Thailand.

Alternatively, consider a trip to Cape Town. Again, its a bit longer than 10 hours but you've plenty of choice for activity, very good beaches, good dining and wine tasting in the area and nice accommodations.
