Reasonable beach vacation

Looking for a reasonable beach vacation. My husband and I are renewing our wedding vows.....just the 2 of us. We have been to many islands and looking for something new that is romantic and not real expensive. We are only planning about 4 days.

Welcome to TripAdvisor!

In order for people to provide you with the most useful advice, it would help if you would provide more specfiics, for example:

- Where are you travelling from (it matters in terms of both cost and time)?

- What time of year are you planning to travel?

- Where have you been (since you are looking for somewhere new)?

- Of the places you have been, which have you liked best/least and why?

- What is your specific budget? "Reasonable" and "not real expensive" are very subjective terms.

where are you from (fllying budget) and where have you been before? that would help alot.

we stayed in the most romantic small house on kauai, in its own fruit orchard (with pickers for the fruit) and right across the street from the best beach...very romantic, in deed.

From Nebraska so will fly out of Omaha. We have been to Hawaii, Cancun, Cozemel, Playa de Carmen, Jamacia and Aruba. Looking at going at the 1st of the year.

Places not on your list to consider: Costa Rica, Belize, Barbados, USVI. Start looking at airfares or airfare+resort NOW.

I also would suggest you focus on flights first, since you are open to many desitinations for your trip. I'm not familiar at all with Omaha, but I know that for many travellers in the western US, the connections to the Caribbean are very challenging and may require overnights somewhere in the US. With only four nights, personally, I would limit travel to one flight connection and keep travel time under eight hours each way. Shorter travel time and no connections are desirable, but it may not be feasible. It seems like you have already been to some of the most popular destinations which are more likely to offer better travel options. I would suggest looking at air/hotel packages, especially if any are offered with charter air, which might offer more convenient travel than commercial options. I also would suggest that you consider the price of your air travel. Assuming $3K is your total budget, I think you are in good shape if you can find flights around $500 each. I also would suggest that you wait until at least January 3 to begin your trip, since peak holiday prices may remain for a couple of days after Jan 1.

Some general thoughts about desinations:

- Weather could be a little cool in some of the islands that are further north. I would avoid the Bahamas in January and be aware of the possibility of a cooler period on other islands

- If you prefer lusher islands like Jamaica, consider St. Lucia (although St. Lucia probably won't be your best option for shorter travel time).

- If you prefer dryer, flatter islands like Aruba, consider Grand Cayman,

- If you are seeking an all-inclusive resort, look at the Domincan Republic for best values outside of Mexico and Jamaica.

- Barbados also may be worth considering due to its more southern location and general variety of things to do.

Couples getaways from $999. To stay within your budget consider choosing an AI like one of these:

And lastly, if I've done it right, is the list of options for first quarter 2012 for COUPLES. Have fun whatever you choose.
