A suggestion for reviews

Hi TripAdvisor,

I just thought this would be an interesting thing to add, I have a lot of friends who do frequent restaurants often and travel a ton. But the thing about reviews is that they either are on one side of the spectrum (very good or very bad) and unless the traveler feels strongly one way or the other, only then will they feel inclined to write a review. Unless they regularly write reviews but those aren't the people you want to attract, new reviewers and new users are the ones you want.

I saw that there is no sort of reward program for those who write reviews, you could possibly offer bonuses or kick backs or introduce some kind of reward system for those people and they would get points based on their reviews, 1 for a written review, 5 for being voted a top review, and maybe a 20% increased rate of points when they are a top reviewer on the site.

At maybe some sort of point system - 500 points would get you a free 1 night stay or some sort of reward, now of course you would have to filter reviews, have someone read over reviews or the community could even do it themselves and earn points.

I just thought that this would be something that maybe you guys could be interested in implementing and it's something I haven't seen many review sites even offering, could help differentiate TripAdvisor.

- Just a happy user, I haven't made many reviews but I do always visit TripAdvisor before an excursion

I wanted to edit it and add, I realize you have a point system in the forms of badges but there is no actual reward other than a badge to display next to your account.

It can be hard to justify spending 10-15 minutes writing a detailed review of a place for a badge on the internet, could maybe help alleviate the issue reviews have in general of only being written when someone feels very strongly or very poorly about a location.

Here we go again!

I have posted this before but I'll do it again. I think if you make a million points you should get a $/€/£ 10 discount voucher to be used by one of TA's partners.

Those partners are eDreams, Opodo, Bravofly and "fly.co.uk".

And if you're mug enough to even consider booking them in the first place, let alone with a few bucks/quid incentive, then you're mug enough to think you get benefits for nothing. Your posts on here cost you nothing. Why would you want something for nothing? If you do then those shonky bookers will be fine for you, until you actually have to deal with them.

Alex, you have not reached a TA Office or TA Staff. This is an open forum and replies are coming from regular members.

Most of the regulars on here firmly believe that you benefit from researching what others have reviewed to help you with your trip. And the logical next step is to write your reviews to pay it forward to those about to take a trip. Or give back if you like that notion better.
