kiwi.com is far cheaper

Hey everyone!

I've got a question regarding kiwi.com and if anyone has had an experience with them with far cheaper flights.

I've been looking at one way fares from Sao Paulo to Santiago direct and found the cheapest airline was GOL for AUD 680, and the next cheapest for Latam for $1300. However, using Skyscanner, kiwi.com comes up with a price far cheaper than the airline with $410 on the Latam flight (1/3 the price!!).

My question is, has anyone experienced flights this much cheaper with kiwi.com and were they actually legitimate? Did you actually pay a far cheaper price without them raising the price later? I've seen third party websites come up with cheaper prices compared to the airline, but not this cheap.

I've also read up on kiwi.com, and they are a legitimate company with some good reviews, but I've also seen some terrible ones. But I'm curious if anyone has seen such a massive discount and it end up that way.

thanks for the help

they are likely pricing a return ticket rather than a one-way with the intention that the return portion is not used...try doing it yourself on the airline site...it is called "throwaway ticketing" and is against most airlines rules however as a one-off you would probably be fine "missing" the return

Kiwi.com is noted as being extremely unreliable, and it is quite possible that the advertised fare does not actually exist. Save yourself a lot of problems, and buy direct from an airline, not a dodgy online agency.

There is no cheap air fare fairy. If any web site is offering tickets significantly cheaper than the airline, there is a very high probability that the site is a scam of some kind.

Yes, I've noticed a lot of complaints re reliability. Thats why I was wondering if anyone had actually taken the cheaper flight, and it was legitimate.

I usually book through the airline direct, I don't see the point in saving the $50 for the hassle it could cause. But when you're saving $800, I thought I'd put it out there for everyones thoughts. Thanks for your reply :)

It looks like you may be right! So, if this is what they are doing, I don't think I'll be booking through them. Thanks!

=======

On this forum it's 99.9% terrible.

The reason is that kiwi (formerly Skypicker) games the systems with all its tickets. Selling a return disguised as a one way violates the airlines' T+Cs. And they are the currently only booker that cobbles itineraries on separate tickets which, when things go wrong (missed onward flight, diversion due to weather) leaves the passenger high and dry and having to call some guy in Prague who can't do anything.

Bargepole, don't, a, with, touch.

Smart move Spercy. And - a rare occurrence on here - well done for doing your research and asking **before** handing over your money. The complaints are from the careless people that didn't do that and ended up with the "stupid tax".

thanks guys - was cking flights from Russia to Canada & saw kiwi.com was a good price - glad I ck'd here first. BTW I have used 3rd party online booking sites expedia, flighthub, flight network, etc without probs - so far I've travelled to all 7 continents so have been around. Often can't book with a single airline when the itin involves 2 or 3 different airlines and I've found that travel agents don't want to invest the time to find you the best deal + with my own time, I can afford the time to research.

Hey, if you can save tons of money, buying from 3rd party sirs, with zero issues, I would say go for it, and spend the savings at a local casino - you are on a lucky roll.
