Was staying two night in Ogunquit and this restaurant happened to be next to the hotel that we stayed at. The menu was very diverse and interesting. Our waitress, Sue was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the planked salmon and my boyfriend ordered the stuffed haddock. Both meals were well prepared and was accompanied by a nice homemade bread basket and delicious seasonal vegetables and potato. My boyfriend has a sweet tooth and ordered the blueberry crisp, which was homemade. I usually do not like sweets so much, plus I was very full from the dinner, but I loved a few bites of this as well. We liked everything about this place, the ambience, food and service, so we decided to cancel our reservation at another restaurant and returned the next evening. Again our waiter, Jose was extremely friendly and gave us exceptional service. This time we ordered steak dishes and everything was cooked to perfection. I did indulge in the homemade chocolate mousse, which was fabulous. This was another memorable meal and I would definitely return when I visit this area. Bravo!
An entire complex dedicated to donuts! Open limited days/hours when we visited in March and we were grateful to sample the maple cream, blueberry fritter, and honey dipped, as well as an egg sandwich on a big, fresh biscuit. All were wonderful. Staff keep a running tally of which kinds of the dozens of types of donuts are available and what's running low, to speed along ordering. Expect lines at drive thru and walk up windows, and, worth the wait. Donuts were fresh, moist, flavorful and clearly a cut above any donut chain. A family operation since 1955 according to signs, these aren't the new gourmet donuts popping up so many places, covered in sugared cereal, with toppings obscuring the actual donut, at $4-5 each. At Congdon's, I could actually enjoy the donut itself, each of which was sizable and reasonably priced. Maple topped donut filled with vanilla cream was my favorite. Did not get to taste the donut-inspired beer nor donut sundaes, but we hope this will not be our last visit here! Grateful for picnic tables for outdoor dining. Friendly, efficient staff.
Billy’s Chowder House is aptly named. The cup of clam chowder I had was so delicious, I wished I had ordered a bowl of it! Because the clam chowder was so tasty, I ordered a cup of the haddock chowder which had a milder taste but was still very flavorful. Additionally, my cocktail was well-poured and generous. Only the shrimp, which were available for a dollar each as a daily special, were a bit lackluster - farm-raised, not especially “meaty.” I was fortunate to have Hannah wait on my table. She was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and did a great job of pacing the meal. She helped make my experience a truly enjoyable one.
We visited this restaurant mid-afternoon on a Friday for an early dinner. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder ($10) and a beer ($9) in addition to the lobster roll with french fries ($28). We requested the lobster roll without mayo, and add butter ($1). The roll is toasted and buttery. The lobster meat was very tender and there was a generous amount on the roll. The clam chowder bowl was also a good size, and was delicious, too. And, there was a generous amount of fries, as well. So, all of the food served was good, and in generous amounts. And, we also had a friendly server who did a great job. The price for the beer was a little steep, we felt. Otherwise, we were happy with our meal. This is a very casual restaurant; I believe at the entrance, they have a tank with the live lobsters… Only other complaint was music was a little too loud…. Would go back here next time we are in town…
I come here twice a year, I have never had a bad meal, in fact it’s always delicious! Expect to wait a bit if you go at prime time, but you can always get a drink and there’s plenty of space to wait, parking is ample, and service is fantastic. Last nights meal was the 24 oz bone in strip, cooked exactly as I asked, price was extremely reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant for a fine meal.
When we first moved to Wells six years ago, this diner was one of the drawing cards. Since Covid, things have changed and not for the better. They no longer serve dinner and are only open five days a week for breakfast and lunch. I ordered a bowl of chili this time which used to be to die for. Now, for $2.00 more you get a half size bowl with too many beans and not much beef. Also watery. It used to be lovely and thick and enough to take half of it home. My husband's eggs benedict was ok but with a skimpy side of home fries and also more expensive. Other restaurants in the area offer a decent sized bowl of chili for less and sometimes with cornbread. We won't be going back to the Maine Diner again!
We've been coming to the Wells area for years and years.....never knew about this place until hotel staff recommended it. My goodness, we were delighted! Tasty pizza with generous toppings, decent price AND I was so impressed that the young male staffers were so polite and helpful, even on a very busy evening. Kudos to them and to the owner of this place. We will be back for sure.
We were here a week ago and enjoyed our meals, drinks, and excellent service. The three of us had the baked stuffed haddock with rice and slaw. The Haddock was cooked perfectly- light and fluffy and a large piece. We ordered a bottle of white wine that the waitress took upon herself to split the cost among us which we didn't ask because we thought she wouldn't be able to do. BUT DO IT SHE DID. Her mannerisms were so gracious and attentive. It just added to the enjoyment of our dinner. Week later - here we were again for another delicious meal. Two of us had lobster and I had fried oysters with a bowl of haddock chowder. I am very fussy about fried food, but my fears were quickly eliminated as I tasted these sweet, lightly breaded, and fried oysters with no residual taste. Once again this waitress was attentive and made a couple visits to our table to check on our dinner. After we declined dessert, she returned with one tab. We had forgotten to ask for separate checks and to split the cost of the wine, to which she graciously responded that it was no problem. She wasn't the same waitress, but handle her job as professional and attentive as the previous one. Cudos to the restaurant ownership in recognizing the importance of competent and attentive staff to customer satisfaction.
My two adult daughters and I wanted something different, and they suggested Mehkong Thai. We ordered two orders of Spring Rolls, one fried, one fresh, two Massaman Curry w/Tofu, one Pad Thai w/Tofu, and one Roasted Cashew veggie stir Fry. We chose white rice for everything except the cashew dish. The spring rolls came with sauce. We paid with credit card over the phone. 20 minutes. The restaurant is easily identifiable. The parking lot in the front is small, five spaces. There is handicap parking and a ramp. Our takeout order was in a contactless area between the front door and the next door to the dining area. The food was hot, and smelled good. A small spill leaked on the bag. We all liked our meals. We had bought extra to eat later in the week. The fried spring rolls were four to an order, and the fresh were 10, basically mini salads in rice paper with dipping sauce. Very good. My daughters both commented that the Massaman Curry w/Tofu was good, as was the Pad Thai. My Roasted Cashew Veggie Stir Fry was also good. After I ate it, I put my brown rice in the left over sauce, and it was great. This is the first time I've ever had the choice of white or brow rice, or fried or fresh spring rolls. I liked having those options. The cashews and pineapple in my meal were noticeably good. We all enjoyed the food and will return. Utensils wrapped in napkins are available in the takeout area. Masks are required, indoor dining is an option. The property was clean inside and out. The staff was friendly and polite.
My wife and I went there for our anniversary dinner on 6-29-22. The check came to $67.oo plus tip. So for a $77.00 lunch I got to have the worst fried clams I've ever had! I also had steak and mash potatoes that were fine. However for a place that calls it self a clam shack to serve fried clams that were supposed to be whole bellys but instead there was clam strips mixed in and clam crumbs and even the whole belly ones were pitiful! I should said something to the person in charge, but we were trying to have a nice 48th anniversary.
By far the BEST lobster 🦞 we have ever had! You will order up your lobster (priced by the pound) at the counter and then step aside while your lobster is cooked. So fresh, hot and delicious. No frills restaurant, eat in or takeaway. So good!
Nice side of the road joint where you can eat outside. The lobster roll was a bit pricey, but it was tasty. It was a good size portion. We also had the shrimp and clam dinner basket. They were okay. Very fried. The cole slaw was very good. The overall problem was the fact that it took forever to get the food after we ordered. The place was relatively empty, and yet it was more than 20 minutes to get served after we ordered. Couldn't understand why (I think they were severely short-handed). Also, we were there just after 7:00 and they ran out of crab for the crab roll. Finally, surprisingly, they have a rule of no outside drinks. We brought water with us that we wanted to drink and they said we couldn't drink it. Then we asked if they would supply us with tap water, and they said no. We had to buy a bottle of their water for $2.00. I gather this is a way for them to make a profit, but most places allow you to bring your own drinks or least provide you with tap water. I rated this a 4 because the food was good, but I am not sure I would return.
There seems to be something for everyone here and I was feeling super hungry so had the steak tip and scallop special. Excellent. Tips were cooked as ordered and the scallops were nice large deep-sea variety. The waitress was really on top of things and very accommodating. I would definitely go back.
Hubby & I had Sunday brunch there recently. What a great find! Food was so delish. Service was great! Southern Marys were surprisingly good, Maple bacon scallop bites & lobster cake Benedict did not disappoint. We highly recommend Merriland Farm Cafe! Be sure to make a reservation.
I had a very nice fish and chips meal and my grand daughter enjoyed her Shepherds Pie. Some in our party had the corned beef but were disappointed. However, the menu did specify that the corned beef was not the typical red brine we are used to, so make sure you read and ask the staff before ordering.
This was our first visit, for my wife's cake and ice cream day. We called ahead and found out that the regular menu stops at 8:00pm with an abbreviated menu until 11:00pm. We ran to the car and were seated less than a minute before 8, and they honored the full menu. We were attended to right away by a cheery waitress. She had our drinks ready right away and our to hefty appetizers on the table so fast we hadn't had time to take a sip of our drinks. Clam strips platter came with fries, cole slaw, and tartar sauce. So good that our vegetarian daughters couldn't resist. The nachos were piled high and came with guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. The four of us emptied both plates in no time they were so good. Between us we had a white pizza with pepperoni, a reuben, and baked haddock which came with choice of two sides. I chose bake potato as one, and it came with butter and sour cream. Four staff members sang Happy Birthday at our table and my wife got a complimentary Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie which came with ice cream. It was all good, and so much that we had to have two boxes to take home what we couldn't finish. It was Wednesday night which is trivia night. A lively, vibrant atmosphere. The staff works well together. There is a bar and big screen TVs. Ample parking. Situated on the way from Wells to Kennebunk. They had a special of buy a $50 gift card and get $10 free. We bought two prior to the meal and paid with them and had plenty left over. We'll be back!
We've been eating at Horizon's for 15-20 years now and they're consistently excellent! They serve standard breakfast fair like pancakes, French toast and omelets. They also have some regional specialties like lobster benedict and Maine blueberry waffles and pancakes. We've never left there disappointed. The checks are always reasonable for what you order and they accommodate dieters and special requests. They are generous with the coffee and tea and always provide great service with a smile. It has become our breakfast restaurant of choice during our one week a year in Wells.
Went during a busy time of year around 7PM and they had one table open. Started with drinks that contained a good pour and reasonably priced. Next the clam chowder that was loaded with many more clams than potatoes, nice. Dinners included fried clams strips that were very tender and well portioned. Other dinner include ribs that were very good. Server was attentive with drinks and meals coming out in very good time. One note, no A/C but the server angled a fan at our table. Overall a very good meal and experience.
This was the first time we tried Bull N Claw and we LOVED IT! We sat at the bar and Suzie the waitress/bartender was very attentive and personable. We wanted something small so we split a small turkey dinner and it was delicious. I also had a peach cocktail that was wonderful. We can't wait to go back later this month.
Quick summary: fresh, tasty food. Friendly, professional service. Colorful casual room with regular and high tables. We were visiting family in the area and stopped here for lunch. There is a range of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, bowls, salads, etc. made to order. There are also imported and craft beers, mojito, and Jose Cuervo margaritas. We moslty had tacos and burritos, all made ot order. There is the usual range of filings and options, all very tasty. We really appreciated the adobo pulled pork special on the day we stopped in. Soft and hard tacos of various types. I really enjoyed adding the fajita vegetables to my taco (extra $,99) Most tacos are in the $4 range; burritos $8.50. The guac was very delish and fresh tasting. Friendly, helpful service works efficiently. The casual room is colorful and has regular tables and high top, sharable tables with a group. I appreciate the precautions they have taken to be COVID safe: masks on servers, plastic panels between servers and the customer line, etc. I wish I lived closer to this place to stop in on a regular basis.
Brenda, the owner, sells the best lobsters in the entire downeast Maine. She will not sell you a bad lobster or steamer. I can't tell you how many years we've been coming here. 20 years ago I asked a "townie" where they get their lobsters. I was told The Yodeling Clam. We've tried other places. Her prices are very competitive and the owner is a hoot!
Stopped in for a late lunch we had an amazing meal. My husband and friend had the seafood stew which he just couldn’t stop raving about. I had the BBQ pork sandwich which was loaded with flavor not drowned in sauce. It was served with a wonderful crunchy cole slaw. Our other friend enjoyed a hamburger. Even the sangria that the waiter made was delicious. The service was excellent and the outdoor area where we dined was very nice. We will definitely return.
Stopped in for a late breakfast on our way to Reny's. We each had the breakfast sandwich (one with bacon, and one with veggies) and coffee. It is obvious this place cares about the quality of food served. The sandwich I had was on a delicious croissant, and everything was yummy. High quality, cooked to perfection and embellished with a slice of pineapple and an orchid. The home fries were especially worth raving about - par boiled ahead of time, seasoned perfectly, and cooked to perfection. No grease! Will be back soon.
Long time local here. I was excited to try Fish Camp out after seeing how busy it was this past summer. I had dinner with my fiancé and we both particularly enjoyed the vibe and atmosphere. Chill music and conversations in the background make for a good date spot. The menu was sort of small but had pizza, burgers, other American entrees. We were seated in the outside-ish area that had plastic coverings which was fine for November and well lit. This inside seating area is nice with newer décor and with a large bar. I did think that the tables were a little too close together but it did not affect us. My fiancé tells me the pizza she had was good and I think the burger I ate was very good. A little to meaty (two meat patties) and cheesy for me but I still appreciated it. The burger left me very full. Waitstaff was attentive, they did mess up the original pizza ordered but remedied right away and handled professionally. This property has been several different restaurants in the past that were never successful. Overall, I thought the place was clean, food was tasty, and I had a good time. I hope that Fish Camp lasts for year to come.
We recently visited Tully’s in Wells , Maine and were very excited with their selection of craft beers. You can purchase by the single can or 4/6 pack and the price is the same. It was fun picking our own 6 pack from new choices! I highly recommend them. I’m told they have the third largest selection of craft beers in New England.
Take out dinner on a Saturday night. Food was ready on time, very fresh and hot. I suggest ordering the combination dinners for your best value. However everything tasted good until my hubby ended up with an open staple in his mouth, as he was finishing his pork fried rice. Needless to say we’re not going back for dessert!
Staff member was helpful and pleasant. Great location to buy lunch for the beach. The restaurant is in need of a good cleaning, floors need to be mopped more often. I would guess they're short on staff, if that's the case, the owner needs to focus on giving the restaurant a deep cleaning. Trash needs to be emptied more often.
Located on Route 9 on the way to 95 from North Berwick, Maine, Richard's almost looks like a fast-food establishment. Too bad, because today, after over 600 drive-bys, I discovered what I had been overlooking. The interior is clean and airy. In the back is a charming gazebo with a few more tables, with plenty of windows overlooking a waterfall they constructed out back in the wooded area. You cannot imagine this being there from the front, busy road. The service is prompt and pleasant. They specialize in fried foods, mostly seafood, with additional selections. The batter used was light and tasty, and the prices are reasonable. Richard's Seafood is open year-round, though they might be closing on Mondays and Tuesdays soon. Don't miss this surprise in an area where you might not expect such a nice stop.
After being disappointed with another local pizza on Thursday, we opted for Market Pizza for our family party needs, and they did not disappoint! I checked out their selections online, then called four hours ahead to place a large order. Two 14 inch veggies, one 14" Hawaiian, one meat lovers, one cheese, and one 20 inch pepperoni. The friendly staff member read the order back to me, confirmed the pick up time, and I conveniently paid ahead. We arrived at the agreed upon time of 4:30, and the order was ready, paid for, and no waiting. The interior of the store was clean. Staff wearing masks. 10 people eating, all dove in, plenty of compliments, no complaints. Everything was tasty and hot. My relatives who own a local restaurant praised the pies. This was a lot of pizza, a lot, for 10, and there were only a few slices left. Very good. We will be back. Plenty of parking in the plaza, but store not readily visible to the first timer. Be careful of the four way intersection entering the plaza because it's not a four way stop. Traffic lights assure that you'll be able to make a left hand turn within a minute, or so when you leave.
We are SO happy we came here! The atmosphere was relaxing and the establishment itself is beautiful with plenty of seating options- indoors (high top tables, low tables, comfy seating and of course the bar) and outdoors (in the front near the live music or in the back). They have a small menu with food options as well as a food truck while we were there. We sat at the bar and started with a gin flight. It came with Wild Bevy's two different gins, two types of tonic and a sampling of nuts to snack on. We loved both gins and decided to bring home a bottle. Once sampling the gins, we ordered the Blueberry Bliss and Elderflower Mist. Both drinks were sweet (but not too sweet) and perfect for a hot summer day. We will definitely come back the next time we visit Wells. And shout out to the staff- the bartenders NEVER stopped. They were making drinks non stop the entire time we were there without a moment to rest.
Generally we stop whenever we are in the area because we normally love this place. It was not the same today. The rice was dry, and everything on the pu pu platter was extremely greasy. The only consistent item was the crab Rangoon, it was super good. I am not sure we will go back again.
