We saw N/Naka on chefs table season 1 and was intrigued. The 6 of us not only thought that the food was epic and up to the 2 Michelin stars but the waiter was amazing! It’s a very small space and it felt like he was there just for us. And the unique sake’s was really different and interesting. The easiest way to score a table is get a group of 6 together. These places have to figure out a way yo stop people from scoring a 2 top and selling on those bid for a table web sites. Go if you can it will blow your mind.
We were in LA for the first time after spending a long day driving along the coast. We needed a casual spot to find dinner so we did a quick google search for "cafe" and Metro Cafe popped up. We were shocked to pull up to find the restaurant attached to a Travel Lodge Motel. We opened our phones back up thinking we were at the wrong place because surely a "motel" cafe would not have all five star reviews. We were wrong.... we were exactly where we were supposed to be. From the moment we were greeted by the most friendly staff to how extremely clean the bathroom was we were in awe. Locals were coming and going picking up to go orders which said a lot about the place. We went for burgers and fries but wish we would have went for the steak because our burgers were FIVE STAR burgers. They were as good if not better than any over priced burger in a fancy establishment we've ever had. Our waitress shared that they are not affiliated with the motel and that they've been there for sixteen years. The best part? They have a full service coffee bar and we were able to get coffees to go for our four hour drive back to where we were staying. Just so excellent!
Johnnie's has been around since at least the 60's. I recall there going as a kid. The family always loved it. Since then I have my own family and we go to Johnnie's at least once a month. Parking is easy in their lot or on the street. It may look crowded, but they also have out door seating and take away. This time we got take away. The place itself is always clean and looks sort of like a 50's diner. There are comfy booths and a counter. Out side is a fire pit with great seating around it. The service is just excellent. The servers remember long time customers, this is a local's spot. They take such good care of everyone and they get your order right the first time. Their pastrami sandwiches are perfect. Huge and dipped. They have the perfect amount of fat and they are big enough to share. Their fries are also great as well as everything on their menu. For the past few months I have been hooked on their burgers. They make it the way you want it. I can't stand well done burgers, which most places insist upon. Johnnie's will make my burger the way I want it, rare. They are not worried about their meat and I have been eating them like this since I was a kid. I never worry about getting sick and if I do, that is my problem, not theirs. The meat is super fresh and just so good. They will make it anyway you want and put on it whatever you want. There is not one negative thing I can say about Johnnie's so go there.
Just finished a wonderful dinner here. We had to go out of our way to eat here but it was so worth it. The service is wonderful. Since the restaurant was fully booked, we were seated outside which was totally fine as there were heaters pretty much next to each table. We got here at 6pm and were seated right away. The menu is amazing. It is not only Vegan but most of their dishes are GLUTEN FREE and that is such a blessing. Being vegan and gluten free, I can have a hard time finding gluten free options. Not here ya'll. We were in the mood to try multiple small dishes instead of a big entrée. So we ordered the Street Taco and oh man the jackfruit was so freaking flavorful. The buffalo cauliflower was bomb dot com. It was cooked to perfection and was very well coated with buffalo sauce (I hate when restaurants skimp on sauces lol). The jalapeño poppers were tasty but were on the oily side. Their Mac n cheese ball was very good but a very small portion for (1 ball) $6 was kind of ridiculous. Their plantains was my least favorite item and I will not order it again. The plantain wasn't ripe enough and that made it very dry and hard. For dessert, we had their brownie Sunday. I stay away from desserts that use white refine or cane sugar but some of their desserts only use agave or other more natural sources of sugar. The brownie Sunday was a huge potion and pricey ($13) but very good for being gluten free, vegan and white sugar free. If you are on the area, I highly recommend dining here. I have heard that they serve some great brunch/lunch too. Cannot wait to come back!
Tender Greens is very good. They have a nice selection of food on their menu and my grandson loves the kids menu. I also enjoy their sides. They have great mashed potatoes. Parking is pretty easy. The place can get very crowded and I don't think they take reservations, I could be wrong. They do not take cash so make sure you have your credit card with you. The avocado toast is perfect. I also love their salmon and their steak is also super good. We have not been disappointed yet and we have been there a few times. now. The service is rushed and that I don't enjoy, for what we are paying they can hire another server so she is not rushing around, unable to take proper care of us. But they are nice. Oh, and the backyard steak is a must try.
This is a wonderful Parisian bistro that offers all the classic French fairs. Expect all the small restaurant charms with amazing foods and excellent services. Although covid19 has put a damper on the crowd, but the foods are still as good as ever. We visited this place today for lunch. The outdoor seatings seemed to be bigger than the normal indoor dining due to expanded seatings onto the street. Since we have been here a few times, we know exactly what to order. To start with, escargot was our appetizer choice. We went for their full pound of moules Frites as our main lunch to share and then we also ordered Paris taco special. For only $12, we got ourselves a fish, a mussel, and a escargot taco with crepe as taco shell. The taste is fantastic, just imagine the combination of French ingredients with taco flavors. Typically, we would come to dine here on either Tuesday or Wednesday night as the restaurant offers all you can eat Moules Frites special. For $29 per person, you can try all the different flavors and cooking styles you can imagine. My favorite cooking is their Meeting Paris Moules Frites where the mussels are cooked in wine wines and butter along with crab meats, tomatoes, beacons, and a lot of other herds. The resulting taste is something that is out of this world. A la carte order of House Specialty Mussels is $17 for a 1/2 lb so all-u-can eat option is a good deal. Parking is a bit tough as they have taken away most of the street parkings. There is a municipal parking lot on Watseka Ave near the restaurant.
"I think steak is the ultimate comfort food, and if you're going out for one, that isn't the time to scrimp on calories or quality". - Tom Colicchio. I believe Tom, owner of Craft, would agree the same applies for pork chops! My wife and I, while touring from New Jersey (Tom's home state), made it a point to dine one night at Craft, and we were not disappointed. The service, food, ambiance, and overall experience was perfect. My wife and I started by sharing the beet salad over drinks; I ordered the pork chop and my wife the halibut, along with very tasty sides of fingerling potatoes and carrots. Each entrée was delivered on separate vessels, allowing the diner to plate one's own dish with the entrée, side, or even to share entrees. Both our choices were perfect. We finished with two wonderful desserts - the Meyer lemon pie and the opera cake. The waitstaff was engaging and efficient - making the evening even more memorable.
The Wallace is a great spot in Culver City for some delicious California cuisine. It's got great ambiance, good service, and a fantastic selection for food + drink. It's a great place to go to with friends/peers or take parents from out of town. They have a great space and the restaurant can accommodate a large group. There are indoor & outdoor choices in seating and a large bar. Just be warned that when the restaurant is busy, you may experience some hiccups or slower service. I've never experienced bad service but it has been slow when they're busy. Parking is a bit of a nightmare around this area, so just plan ahead.
The location is in the heart of the Culver City down town restaurant area. We sat street-side in the Covid modified curb side dining. The road noise was not excessive, except for when the often impatient so-cal driver decides they need to use their horn! If this sort of noise will bother you, get a table inside. The food was solid and well prepared with good options for both carnivores and vegetarians. Happy hour prices for drinks were much less than non-happy hour prices.
We walked past this restaurant one afternoon and I noticed the high-quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar being put out on the table as they were setting up for evening service. We were drawn in by this for some strange reason! We spoke to the lovely lady on the host stand and ended up making a reservation for later that evening. From start to finish it was fabulous! We enjoyed talking to our server who was from Sicily and was clearly very experienced and well-traveled. We order the salmon a la griglia (excellent) and the sea bass (excellent). The whole experience was a delight. Even the bread was lovely. The ambiance was cozy. The whole vibe was nice. A bit of bustle without it being too noisy. We would definitely return.
If you want authentic Italian food, this is the place! By far the linguine pescatore were the best I have ever had! My favorite appetizers were the eggplant parmigiana and the eggplant and burrata bruschetta. The bread was to die for! The pizza, which typically is made with the same dough, was different this time. (Not as good) I will be back again and again!
I eat brunch at Vida regularly. I LOVE the brown rice pancakes and my wife adores her "balance bowl". They prepare our food exactly like we order and they are very accommodating, kind and the food is really fresh, wholesome and tastefully presented. I am never ashamed to bring well healed clients there to enjoy the great vibe, wonderful taste in music and bucolic outdoor eating.
this is the perfect place to meet friends for lunch or a beer and some burgers after work. it feels very much like a sports bar on Rush Street in Chicago. the place is very casual. the burgers are good and so is the rest of the food. the staff is quite friendly. stop by, grab a bite and watch the world go by. i will be back soon.
I hadn't been to Versailles since way before the pandemic. The Versailles chicken was, as usual, really tasty (love the lemon sauce!). The accompanying rice, beans and plantains were delicious. Special kudos for the onions which were sweet, not sharp (perhaps Vidalia or similar?). Service was just OK, but we had to wait much too long for a waiter at a time when the restaurant was practically empty (6PM). One thing that always bugs me is the "bread" that they now serve in a paper carton. I've been going to Versailles since the 80s and back in the day they had a small electric grill where they "grilled" tasteless bread rolls. The grill is no longer visible out front, but it's the same tasteless "bread", only now the rolls are served sliced into thin pieces which harden before they even reach the table. Poor presentation, poorer taste. But I'll give 4 stars for the food.
We visited The Culver Hotel for lunch and were immediately greeted by Merrick, who really felt more like an old friend than someone we had just encountered. Awesome conversation and warmth. This set the tone for a wonderful experience. The ambiance, menu selections and experience are all quietly upscale but very comfortable. We look forward to visiting again when visiting the area.
First time for all of us here. We got a nice corner table outside. Our waiter was friendly but very busy. The food was excellent! My friends had fish tacos and fish and chips; they both said that their food was very good. I had the (new) Fall Arugula salad , with added shrimp. What a treat! I think the pumpkin vinaigrette dressing made the salad so delicious. Highly recommend! The only downside was that it was noisy (mostly street noise). One of my friends has hearing issues, but we didn't want to sit indoors. All in all, a good experience!
This is a popular spot for locals and where nostalgic eaters come to dine. I ordered the steak burger with added cheese, regular fries, and a slice of banana cream pie. It was busy when I arrived and after receiving my order I went to eat at the rear large open patio, no indoor dining at the moment due to the C19 pandemic. The burger is okay and has more of a salad taste than a burger taste. The fries are large and standard greasy spoon fare. The pie was good and flavorful but nothing over the top.
BBQ spot on Sepulveda. Came here on a Friday evening with a couple of friends and made reservations online beforehand. They have a small free parking lot available or you can find street parking if it’s full. Indoor and outdoor dining is available. Credit cards accepted. Food-wise, most of the options are good. The buttermilk biscuits were very tender and large. The mac and cheese was super decadent, and I would suggest getting that. The peewee potatoes weren’t anything special nor were the grits. The seasonal salad was good, but we probably didn’t need to get the warmed Turkey meat on top (extra cost). The chicken was alright, but I really did like the ribs - super tender and they’re pork ribs. The chocolate bread pudding for dessert was amazing - very chocolatey yet not overlay sweet. The employees were all really nice and laidback. Overall, a cool casual spot to grab some BBQ.
Do you know how to get to Culver City when in the Los Angeles area? Then look for LUKSHON without hesitation. Bright, modern and exciting, this restaurant offers a very successful combination of Asian and California cuisines in perfect harmony. Should I extoll the wonderful taste of their Hawaiian Butterfish, Uni Toast or the Sichuan Dumplings and Chinese Eggplant dishes? The Crispy Fish as a main dish was what you would expect to see and taste in some of the best Hong Kong or Shanghai restaurants. Accompanied by Crab Rice and Chinese Broccoli, this meal reached for the stars. A Nikolaihof dry white Riesling was the outstanding pairing for wine and enhanced all flavors while pricing was generally on the middle-high side. Excellent and personable service completed this really unexpected experience. Do not miss it!
With a two day stop-over in LA on our way out of the country, we decided to hit Spago, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great, the cocktails and drinks were as expected. Between the two of us, we had the Jidori chicken and the duck, both of which were excellent. I personally was torn between the duck and the veal, and on a return trip I plan to try the veal. Almost all the entrees were between $50-75, which I thought was extremely well priced for the Beverly Hills area. For dessert we split the Warren pears. The staff top to bottom was the real star of the show, as I would expect the food at a Wolfgang Puck restaurant to be top notch. While taking our drink order, the server asked if we were celebrating any sort of occasion to which we mentioned we were on a trip celebrating our anniversary. This led to a well wishes message on our dessert plate, which was a nice touch we thought considering the server remembered that it was our 8th anniversary specifically. Would highly recommend!
We recently ordered last week's vegetarian take-home experience from Vespertine. It was truly amazing. the positive vibes began with an email inquiry about a certain ingredient which was answered quickly even though the restaurant was not open on that day. Thank you Megan. When we picked up the meal it was beautifully boxed and contained a sheet with a description of each dish and detail reheating instructions. the food was inventive and unique which has always been a forte of Chef Kahn. We are not big eaters and had no difficulty in getting two complete meals out of what was billed as servings for two. We do not eat meat and a vegetarian experience like this was truly delightful. Sort of wish they would do a vege or pescetarian meal more often. It was a very good value for the quantity and quality of the food and the expert take out service and "presentation." Kudos to the chef and the entire Vespertine team.
Strip mall ramen joint where you place your order on a virtual machine and seat yourself. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Credit cards accepted (no cash). Extremely limited parking is available in the lot, I would suggest finding street parking instead. One single occupant restroom is available in the back. They have vegan options available. Came here on a Wednesday evening with my friend around 7pm and there was a short line to order, that grew as the night went on. It’s a good spot to take someone who hasn’t had ramen before as you have a lot of options and can customize everything from the broth to the toppings. I liked my hippie ramen (a vegan option) but did find the birria to be a tad too oily. Service was friendly and came around frequently to refill our waters.
Our April dinner during our Los Angeles anniversary weekend at 1* Cut by Wolfgang Puck was as good as I remember from 2019. I couldn’t resist again and had the 8 oz A5 Mizaki Wagyu steak (an extra $150 for the 2 additional oz) — and this remains the only place outside Japan where I’ve had a proper Wagyu steak as amazing as in Japan. My husband’s “regular” 8 oz filet was slightly overcooked, but they immediately took it back on us mentioning it and replaced it quickly with a delicious (if perhaps slightly undercooked) and superior replacement. Not too shabby at all. The chef sent out his famous whipped potatoes on the house. The bottle of 2007 Abreu Thorevilos we brought perfectly paired with both steaks — but really stood out with my Wagyu. We were too stuffed to bother with dessert, but the chef sent out a little sampler for us anyway. Service was so friendly and fabulous yet again. I already can’t wait to return yet again. This still is my favorite steak restaurant in the U.S.A.
We just can't stop going to Rutts. They have the best breakfast and lunch. Everything they have is great. You can get it to go or eat there. We love to eat there. The place is small and parking is on the street, but you will get a table, it may just take a few minutes. Their service is so kind and friendly. They will get you were food fast and hot. We love their Portuguese sausage royal. Get the smaller size so you have room for other delights. They have something for everyone, even a vegan and you will love whatever you have.
First time in Beverly Hills, and here. We had the six course tasting menu, a bargain at $78 a person. We went all pasta, aside from the lentil soup - lobster salad, ravioli, linguine, and bronzino. Actually, a little too much food. Dessert topped it off - chocolate tart and lemon torte. Plus, I spilled a glass of wine ( white fortunately) and the staff had us moved to another table in a jiffy, with a minimum amount of fuss. Professionals all the way. Well worth a visit.
My wife and I were tiring of our hotel breakfast option while touring LA, so we wanted to get out and experience a local breakfast option. We chose Toast from Trip Advisor, and were not disappointed. Only downside was finding a "qualified" spot, other than paying $10 in an adjacent garage or metered parking. We lucked out and found a spot only a block away. The restaurant offers both in and outside service, but on this cool morning we dined inside. The ambiance is comfortable, the service swift, and the food delicious. My wife ordered the 3rd street - spinach, swiss and feta cheese omelet, and I got the classic pancakes with sides of eggs and bacon. All was done to order, nicely presented, and very tasty. Tea and coffee were both delivered hot. Our bill was somewhat pricey, but I'll give it a pass due to egg prices. Excellent choice and experience.
When we arrived at the restaurant, you will be greeted by photo frames of famous Indian personalities who have visited the shop. The ambience is nice and the staff were very welcoming. However, though they claim to serve Kerala Food, the food seemed to be a fusion. Some food tags on the buffet counter (like the ice cream) was not available. In this case, the food tags should not even be displayed in the buffet counter. This is limited parking outside the shop when we reached and we had to wait about 20mis for a lot; but that could be due to the peak lunch hour.
The back patio at Jackson Market is my little relaxing refuge! Since I found it totally by chance during a neighborhood walk, it's been one of my favorite spots in town to grab a bite and chill. I since have introduced the place to many of my friends and they all loved it as well. The staff is usually kind and friendly, but high praise to Sam, who used to be there more often, but not anymore. He seemed to be one of the owners, but I think now he takes care of the Jackson's Cafe, off of Jefferson Blvd. I wish he were still around taking care of things. They have a good wine selection and a variety of other beverages as well. I've never tried their sandwiches, not really my thing, but they seem to be very popular. I used to come often for their delicious pizza - great pizza dough and a wood-burning oven. It was not reliable, many times, I would call in to confirm, show up to get pizza and be told the pizzaiolo was not there. But when successfully being able to order, the pizza was always very good. Unfortunately, they've made changes and the pizza is not as good anymore. After their big renovation e reopening, I have ordered pizza twice and it was a bit disappointing. The last time, about two weeks ago, was the worse, as the tomato sauce the used tasted like spaghetti sauce. That's not good at all! It was not just me with that impression, also three other friends who ordered pizza on the same day to picnic at the park. I hope they bring the pizza back to the same level of quality that made this the to-go spot in the neighborhood. I want to keep going back for more. Please Jackson Market!
Govinda's is one of those places that you can eat daily and feel like you are getting something new, healthy and nourishing everytime! I was working for a time at one of the studios across the street and decided to get the meal card for Govinda's. As I started to come several times a week, I would see familiar faces . This casual, cafeteria style eatery became like a college dorm kitchen where I just sat down and started a conversation with whomever was there. Upstairs is one of LA's most remarkable boutiques for Indian clothing, jewelry, incense and more. Next door to the restaurant and store is a temple where people worship and chant. Truly a unique and special place!
Plates are fairly large, so you definitely walked out of there full. Some parking in front of the restaurant but there’s street parking also metered but fair. Had the enchilada plate very good, smothered burrito look tasty also. Plates run $15-$20.
