We dined as a couple with a balcony seat over the road, which was pleasant enough, but location dictates that the restaurant does not have the stunning (sea) views of other restaurants in Holetown. We dined from the standard restaurant menu (not sushi) and enjoyed our starter and mains - although we weren't raving about them just as much as some other meals we'd previously enjoyed during our stay. All in all the food was of a good standard, the service was good, the venue is very nice and the owner is very attentive, taking time to talk to his clientele and ensure all is to your liking. We enjoyed our evening - it just didn't quite hit the 5 star heights for us.

We as a family of four (Children 10, 8) ate here for dinner during a very trying time for the hospitality business. A 9pm curfew was in affect which meant our original booking for 8pm had to be moved. Rob (the co-owner) was amazing at juggling the bookings as well as trying to keep everyone safe by not doing the easy thing and overbooking his restaurant to accommodate all the willing patrons earlier in the day by bypassing social distancing protocols. Table was rearranged for 6pm with no fuss. Again due to curfew the menu was a restricted selections of favorites however there was more than enough choice. We had a mixture of starters and their sushi selections. All dishes were to an excellent standard served by attentive staff. Though a little pricey (but most in Barbados are) this restaurant comes highly recommended and doesn't disappoint. The personal touch provided by Rob takes the experience from good to great!

Thank you so much for this very kind review. As you've acknowledged, it's extremely challenging at the moment running a hospitality business in these times. Trying to get the balance right between safety of our staff and customers as well as trying to keep a pleasant environment to dine in is not easy but we are doing our very best. It means a lot that you've taken the time and trouble to acknowledge this. Many thanks, Chris ( not Rob :) )

Nishi is a lovely restaurant. It is located directly opposite the upmarket shopping mall on the main road through Holetown. The restaurant is very large with an outdoor terrace area by the entrance ( in 2nd Street) & indoor areas both on the ground floor & on the 1st floor. We were seated in the glass enclosed balcony on the 1st overlooking the mall. This is definitely a fusion restaurant offering a range of sushi dishes including a fixed priced menu with only sushi dishes, thai curries and Caribbean favourites. We settled on the a la carte menu after our pre dinner rum punches & pina coladas. The drinks though were on the small side - our only disappointment. For our starters my wife chose the tempura shrimp — 3 large thin shrimp in a very light tempira batter with a dipping sauce whilst I had the fried calamari. The calamari had been coated in a spicy light batter & both dishes were delicious. For our main courses my wife chose another starter — the mushroom crepes which were served with a cheesy sauce, very light and she thought the dish was excellent. I chose the Thai green curry which was served in a bowl , a poppadum on the side and a separate bowl of steamed rice. The dish was superb with just the right amount of spice, loads of chicken pieces in a lovely curry sauce. We decided to share a dessert — all of which seemed to have been put on the menu to remind guests of a cold winters day in England than a warm evening in Barbados. We chose to share the bread & butter pudding - a marginal decision over the sticky toffee pudding. The dessert was fantastic a square of bread & butter pudding with a separate bowl of ice cream. I never thought it was possible to make such a light pudding but Nishi somehow managed it. A lovely end to a great meal. The service was excellent throughout, very friendly, efficient and attentive. All the dishes were served in a timely manner & you never felt rushed at any time. An excellent evening

We have dined at Nishi several times it is always good and one of the more reasonably priced (but still not inexpensive) restaurants in Barbados. Owner is very personable and checks in to ensure your enjoying the meal. Inside and outside are both nice, but we love the patio outside. A mix of Asian and Local.

I really liked this place . It’s been divided up into 3 or 4 separate eating areas so you don’t feel you’re in a large restaurant . We sat in the outside terrace area which was lovely . The restaurant owner Chris is a super host and he makes sure he comes around and chats to everyone which was a nice touch . The food is really fabulous and so fresh . I’d definitely go back.

We were a party of six people, one of whom needed gluten-free food. The staff at Nishi were great throughout and the owner also checked with each table that they were enjoying their meals. Excellent meal, delightful flavours. The staff were polite and friendly. Not cheap, but in this case, we felt that it was worth it.

We were recommended to try Nishi and booked ahead. The parking is a bit tricky on a Friday or Saturday, but the ground floor entrance to the restaurant is very decorative and interesting. We had requested a ground floor table but were escorted to the almost deserted top floor and given guidance to the huge menu by one of the owners. It's an odd mix of Japanese (which we love) and almost-British meat and fish, apparently produced from different kitchens. We went for a bento box for me and fish for him. The service was slick and professional but the rather echoey space was devoid of ambience., though we could hear convivial noise coming from the ground floor. We shared a starter and a pud but were still a little amazed when the bill arrived. As we'd only been in Barbados a couple of days by then we had not got used to the practice of addng VAT, tax and service charge to the cost of the dishes shown on the menu and calculated this meal cost almost twice as much as our usual meals out in our favourite UK Japanese restaurant for a rather less exciting experience.

Hi Chris, thanks for coming over to our table to speak with us during our visit and as promised here is our review. We decided to come to this restaurant on the recommendation of some guests we met at our hotel. First of all we arrived quite early and thankfully we did not need to book a table. I would recommend that you book in advance if you plan to arrive later on in the evening. Myself and my wife decided to to sit at one of the outside tables as it was a warm night. The ambience and the vibe of the restaurant was just wonderful. the restaurant specialises in UK, Caribbean and Asian dishes. After cocktails (which were excellent) we decided to plump for a Asian cuisine. Myself and my wife had dim sum to start off with and for main course my wife had dragon roll Sushi (her favourite) and I had one of the Sushi Bento Boxes. The quality of the food was superb. The presentation was first class. I really cannot fault the restaurant for service and quality of food. Chris (one of the owners) came over after our meal to talk to us, which was nice. I do not have the words to express how much I enjoyed the food here so I will just let you see my photographs and decide for yourself. I will say that the restaurant is not cheap so be prepared to pay a premium when eating here. However, when the food is this good and presented so well you do not mind paying for quality.

We’ve never been really enthused by this restaurant but decided to give it another try - WOW Just loved it - so much so that we came back a second time during our holiday. Great vibes along with enthusiastic Staff and a fabulous menu (jerk chicken amazing) Courtyard seating on a Friday with the band playing a must. Chris the proprietor is hands on spreading himself courteously around each table checking all is in order! Thank you all and see you next time x

My husband and I visited the Nishi restaurant twice during our 10 day holiday. The owner really showed he cared even working his birthday. As you can see from our photos the sushi is to die for, it tastes even better than it looks, and it looks beautiful. Our Recommendation is to try the lobster , it’s lightly battered and I believe this is their signature dish. You can either eat in or out in the courtyard, which becomes magical with fairy lights at night. If you suffer with mosquito bits like me, then take yourself off the menu and eat In the air conditioned space which is great for people watching. Remember to book as this can get very busy and don’t be fooled into thinking you will get the same level of Sushi at the Roof top restaurant opposite, this was dry and appeared to be bought in, as it was cold and dry, complete with the plastic grass served from the Bento box. The Nishi enables you to see your Sushi being made, yum! Do it accept inferior 🍣 Sushi you have been warned…

Our first visit to this restaurant that is close to where we are staying. We were shown up to the first floor which, as it turned out, was the correct choice as this was where the Japanese food was prepared and served. We could not fault the dishes that we ordered and the young and attractive staff were attentive and efficient.

First time at Nishi and wow the food was amazing. We came here on valentines night as we wanted somewhere low key, beautiful, relaxed but with fantastic food and this place was just perfect. Nothing w***y about this restaurant, you know, just a really great place to go. The courtyard setting was stunning, the atmosphere was comfortably lively but not over the top. We had live music which was fun, dance if you wanted. The owner came round to check we were ok and Enjoying the food and offered recommendations if we needed it. All in all a great place to come - if we weren’t leaving the next day we would have had sushi every day here and plus they do takeaways!

Made reservation in advance, however we were very disappointed with our experience. Food was delicious but very overpriced and the service was very poor. Staff give impression of not liking their job. A 10% service charge added to very high bill, no wonder waiting staff feel they don’t have deliver an excellent customer experience even though the customer is spending service money

We have visited nishi on previous trips and this restaurant always delivers. We were celebrating our anniversary and the table was decorated for us. Food delicious , mushroom crepes and catch of the day were really tasty and well presented. Staff are polite with a smile and the owner came over for a chat which is a nice touch. We had a lovely complimentary dessert with a sparkler much appreciated. This is a reasonably priced establishment well deserved of its rating.

I am a frequent traveler to Barbados, and an advid sushi roll lover. I always have to visit Nishi because the food is delicious. I recommend anyone going to order this - appetizer: Seafood Bisque, dinner: Volcano Roll, dessert: Warm Apple Crumble with ice cream For anyone who loves sushi rolls, you cannot go to this restaurant and not order the Volcano Roll. It is by far the most deliciously, and perfectly baked sushi roll you will ever eat. No other sushi restaurant I've been to (and I've been to many in different countries) cooks their Volcano Rolls like Nishi's. It's uniquely AMAZING. I recommend reservations if going on a Friday or Saturday. However, the weekday is slow so reservations may not be necessary. In terms of carrying out your fun after dinner, Nishi is located adjacent to the hot spot of bars/nightlife on the West Coast. You can literally walk outside the restaurant to the nightlife/bar next door. Yet, with it being so close to the nightlife inside the restaurant it is still pleasantly intimate, romantic and quiet so if you're worry about nightlife riff raff...DON'T. It's the ideal place to go for a one stop shop for dinner and after dinner fun, all in one.
