Popped in for lunch after a morning up the mountain. Greeted by the warmth of logfire. Seemed only one person serving and cooking. All meals were of reasonable price and quality. Kids enjoyed their meals as did the adults. Fast service. Will be back next...time in National Park.More

We ordered fish and chips, and wedges which were good. But the pancakes were terrible. The berry sauce had gone badly off. The staff member was dismissive saying “well that’s the last of it anyway”. We wouldn’t go back again.

This used to be a great place to call into on your way through the central north island. The food was plentiful and top notch. Not anymore I am afraid and it’s now off our preferred places to stop. Hardly any food displayed, and what...there was, was awful. The cafe was damp and cold, no cosy fire like it used to have. Sugar and salt so damp it wouldn’t come out of the containers. Our food was third rate and the pie my partner had was cold in the middle. The coffee was okay. Do not bother to go here anymore.More

This is the worst food I have ever been served. The American hotdog was still cold as if it hadn't been cooked. The eggs Benedict, bacon was cold, hollandaise sauce was cold and eggs not cooked properly. Also were served knife and forks straight on...table no servette that seemed it hadn't been cleaned in a while but were expected to eat with them. Would not recommend at all.More

The mushrooms had a slight hint of coconut, might not sound like it goes but it REALLY does, best creamy mushrooms I've had in ages. Good coffee too.

If we travel this way we almost always stop here. just off main road in the historic station, set in the bush and railway backdrop. Have been in for breakfast and lunch and always good with indoor or outdoor seating. coffee always top notch.

My partner and I came here for a coffee in the morning. The restaurant is very cozy and clean, with lots of little decor elements. The coffee was perfect, the service very nice. Perfect to start your day of exploring or hiking. Definifely recommend!

We walked in, didn’t get greeted. The man behind the counter didn’t acknowledge anyone in line. When someone ahead of us went to order he seemed very put out. I’m not sure if a massive group had just left and the staff were tired, but...it gave us a bad vibe, so we left even before ordering. Wouldn’t go back at all.More

Warm and inviting. Great coffee and food. A nice place to spend some time - perfect while waiting for the train to arrive. But would be great even if you weren’t waiting on the train.

Don’t let the look of this place deceive you; you will get a good meal here. On a Saturday, I searched around at National Park to find somewhere for lunch and there isn’t much to choose from. I stopped at Joy’s Dairy to ask if...anywhere was open, and this place was suggested. It’s in the railway station - although I’m not sure how many trains go through these days. Anyway, I went in and there were several people dining, so I thought I might as well. I ordered the Salmon Salad. The order was not quick to arrive - around 20 minutes I think - but the server was on his own and relatively busy. I was fine with that length of time. The salad was good - smoked salmon with spinach leaves, avocado, fresh tomato, sun-dried tomato and capers, with olive oil. I asked them to add cheese (as I was hungry), so it came with Parmesan shavings also. It was enjoyable. There was a generous helping of salmon and the other ingredients were fresh. A good lunch. The space is old and tired, but the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is reliable. I would come here again - thank you.More

Really disappointed.this place used to have great food but on the day we went it was only old fashioned and unappealing bakery fare . Nothing gluten free. Almost empty but service was slow and not very welcoming.

We were staying at the Chateau but had been out walking and stopped in here for lunch. Really, we couldn’t find any other place open. We had a bowl of soup . It was homemade & very good with a generous piece of toasted bread.
