I actually love this place. The soup is addictive (mmmmsg). I usually opt for the seafood laksa. Most of all I love their assortment of condiments - chilli sauce, fried shallots, sweet soy sauce and vinegar. All which I drown my soup in. Not my healthiest South Melbourne Meal, but still, delicious.

A good, cheap feed. Awesome food, especially the laksa options. Definitely recommended if you are in the area, looking for some authentic cuisine.

This place is so disgusting. It is not an old building but the place looks old. The walls are dirty. The heater above the door is filthy, the aircon unit is also just as filthy. Plastic cheap chairs and tables. The chilli sauce bottles are left uncapped so airborne germs settle at the opening with sauce dried and thickened around... More

I paid 10 bucks for a bowl of boiled water with at least two tablespoons of MSG, rice vermicelli and the same types of meat balls that I normally pick up from the Asian Groceries stashed away in the freezer for a rainy day. Supposedly, this is a traditional Indonesian dish and they call it the Bakwan... I'll let you... More

Went there on a vacation with relatives who lives in Melbourne. Before coming, heard great reviews from my relatives. But I turns out just a "so-so" place & food compared to what I use to have back in Indonesia. So, I guess this is better than nothing for Indonesian food lover in Melbourne

Okay, Meetbowl was the first restaurant i visited when i first arrived in Melbourne, and yes, it is bad. I ordered the Nasi Campur (Rice, Skewered Pork, Pork BBQ), and it was horrible. The pork was "rubbery" and the soup was very salty. Came back this month, and guess what? It changes! The BBQ pork suddenly have this nice crisp,... More

I went there for dinner with my wife 2 weeks ago, the restaurant was empty. The service is terrible, nobody greeted us for 5 mins, we stood there like idiots looking at the menu etc. The food tasted terrible, not fresh and full of MSG. I felt uneasy and thirsty after the meal, I didnt even finish my noodles, I... More

Tried Bakso Special, Bakwan Special and Batagor and very disappointed. Bakso and Bakwan Special taste nothing like the real Bakso in Indonesia, especially the Soup, its tasteless. Batagor sauce tastes like peanut butter and does not taste like the real Batagor. Really not recommended for people who miss Indonesian food. There are lots of other Indonesian restaurant in Melbourne that... More

I love the batagor and mie bakso special. Reminds me of the food back home. Portion is good although a bit expensive for Indonesian food. Atmosphere also reminds me of small restaurant back in Indonesia.

Staying in South Melbourne

Neighbourhood Profile
South Melbourne
South Melbourne hosts the city’s oldest continuous market, founded in 1867. Rows of neatly arranged fruit, vegetables and flowers splash yellows, greens and reds along the entire perimeter, where the whole neighbourhood gathers for Saturday feasts. Inside the hall, shoppers hover over the mouth-watering displays of delicatessens and specialty food shops. Further in, a bazaar full of giftware, clothing, and kitchen utensils completes the scene. Take a break to walk the wide and shady streets and stroll along the Victorian-era heritage terrace houses. But return to the market in time for some paella, simmering in three large frypans on the footpath and served straight onto your plate.
