We stayed here during the 'off' season, so the restaurant was closed, but the accommodation was very comfortable. The generator kicked in for a few hours a day, so we were able to run the electric heater, along with the gas heater to keep the...entire space warm. The hot water was spotty, but that's common with on-demand water heaters, so we were not surprised. There were plenty of blankets for those who aren't used to the cold. Louise the cleaner was quite helpful and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. I would definitely stay here again.More

We stayed for 2 nights at Tipi and Bobs. 4 ladies celebrating a 70th birthday. We had a front upstairs unit with spectacular sea views. Having a wine on the deck watching dolphins in the bay was amazing. Unit was well equipped with 2 burner...gas stove, frig, kettle etc. very comfortable clean beds and towels. With the island running on limited power, power points only work from 5pm to 9.30pm. but there is a USB port for charging phones and everything else is on gas. It wasn’t a problem but something to be made aware of. Would definitely stay here again because of the location. The restaurant was not operating just having come out of level 3. A 5min walk takes you to the Currach Irish Pub where we were served the best seafood chowder I have ever had. It was to die for. The restaurant supplied a huge platter of desserts on the house to celebrate the birthday. We all managed to buy a beautiful work of local art to bring home from the exhibition shop in Claris and the honey is definitely worth purchasing. The people are very hospitable and nothing was a problem . A real step back in time . A hire car is necessary to fully explore the island. The 45 min walk to the Kaitoke Hot Springs is a must. Bird life was incredible and the My Fat Puke cafe is worth a visit to try one of their home made savoury scones. We are already planning our next trip back. Photos are a view from the deck, beach across the road, Kereru everywhere, and Tipi and BobsMore

A warm still evening and a sea view through trees - what more could you ask? Perfectly cooked fish and vegetables from a superb cook, with wine and friendliness.

I see there are two pages for Tipi and Bobs so I’ll post this on both. When we first arrived things started off well. We were shown our seats, and the area by the window was cleaned for us as it had some dead flies...on it. We were given menus and the staff seemed friendly enough. We ordered a garlic bread entree, and for mains my wife ordered the pan fried fish of the day and I had the beef & scallop dish. The entree tasted fine and was a good start and when the mains arrived they looked amazing and they were of a generous portion size. For my main, the scallops were well cooked, the steak well seasoned, and the potatoes and salad were also great. However, half way through my steak it was a little undercooked (definitely not medium-rare), and I discovered a rather large piece of essentially raw fat. Initially I simply cut around the fat and pushed it to the side of my plate as I wanted to give the chef some feedback, but didn’t want to make too much of an issue about it as the rest of my meal was fine. My wife’s fish had the same salad and potatoes as mine and they were fine too. The fish was well cooked, but lacked a little seasoning for flavour. A side of lemon would have been a nice touch. Our male server throughout most of the night was great, and even when I told him about the uncooked fat in my steak he graciously apologised and said he would pass on my feedback. I was happy with this and would have simply left it there. However, when it came time to pay, the female owner decided to instead create an argument with me about it in some kind of attempt to convince me that aged sirloin steak always has raw uncooked fat it in. Complete Rubbish! Any chef (and restaurant owner) would and should easily know that you do not serve a steak with raw uncooked and un-rendered fat. How ridiculous to stand there and try to justify that! I wasn’t after a free meal, I wasn’t there to cause a scene. I simply wanted to pass on some sincere feedback about my meal and you took it upon yourself to be rude, dismissive and down right disrespectful to me, YOUR CUSTOMER. So, I’ll be telling every single person I can find to avoid you like the plague, because as the other reviews on this page can attest to, you simply have no business being in the hospitality industry. Shame on you. We were there to celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary tonight, thanks for giving us a very poor memory to associate with Great Barrier Island.More

As there are not a huge range of restaurants on Great Barrier - we made it our m mission to try most in our 3 days. Tipi and Bobs was a a great dinner - nothing too fancy but well cooked, hot and plenty, we...enjoyed it. Bit fast - in and out in an hour but that seemed to be the way on Great Barrier so all goodMore

This is a lovely place to go to have a quiet drink, something to eat and also somewhere to stay. We have never stayed there but have visited often to have a drink and to eat of an evening. The outlook is stunning with views...of Pah Bay. As vegetarians it is best to phone ahead but the resulting food is delicious from a chef who favours taste highly as a main component of his dishes. We have always enjoyed our time thereMore

This place must have the best view of any restaurant I've been to. Good food, friendly service. We had breakfast and dinner here.

Everyone talks about this accommodation, drinking and restaurant venue but on seeking it out it looked a little underwhelming, yet step inside and be surprised by the dining room and the bar area. Just a few minutes walk from the junction at Pah beach it’s...an ideal place to have a drink and dinner. The food and drinks were good and the service friendly and attentive. Island pricing as expected.More

Wonderful fresh seafood, big chunky chips, nice green salads, with a gorgeous view across the bay. Chowder loaded with seafood while desserts ample in size with a scoop of french vanilla ice cream. Meals are pricey, but the ingredients do travel a long way to...get to the kitchen. Definitely worth a visit.More

We had a meal that was nice but far too expensive for what it was. Basic salad, no dressings or condiments. Fish was reasonably fresh. Very friendly owner, with clean and pleasant surroundings.
