I was returning to Moscow after a week of filming, and I decided to take a detour South along the river, through the cute town of Murmon. I asked a local for a food recommendation and I was told the best restaurant in the city...was Restaurant Chayka. I am certainly glad I went here! I ate the pepper-crusted pork loin and rice pilaf, and I was blown away. The Pilaf was good, but the best part of the meal was the pork, which was tempered to perfection and had the most delicious crust I've ever had; perfectly dry and crispy without being overcooked. The bar was stocked with excellent liquor, though sadly I couldn't indulge since I was driving. And what would a wonderful meal be without wonderful service? I was greeted by a very friendly staff and although I can't speak Russian, my waitress, Maria, did a wonderful job communicating with me and giving me recommendations with a wonderful smile. Each time I looked up, she was watching to see if I needed anything. True attention to detail! Great food, great service - and a great price. Truly, I was shocked when the bill arrived, realizing a dinner of this quality would have cost five times as much in Moscow, and ten times as much in New York City or Miami. In short, I can't wait to return to eat here on my next road trip out east!More
