We've been waiting a long time to get our pub back and decided to take friends for our first visit with new owners. Clean and with a good fire going was promising start. The supper club menu of 3 courses was served by very helpful and friendly staff, making sure everything was ok. Food was excellent, well presented and well... More

With The Crown now having changed hands, thank goodness, four of us all local thought, having seen the new website, that we would try it. How disappointed we were, the food I'm afraid was awful and the service although they were trying was much below par. We are hoping that things over time will improve they certainly cannot get any... Welcoming staff. Local pub feel, conveniently close to gorgeous walking routes. Dog friendly with cosy booths by the fire. Good stop for a drink. Same menu as The Buddle Inn.

Stopped on the Bank Holiday after New Year for a light lunch. Took advantage of the Lunch Club offer of 2 courses for £9.95 each. Had bangers and mash plus a dessert each which was ample for lunch. Can't understand why one reviewer said it is characterless as it is a good old fashioned inn with unmatched tables and chairs,... More

Dropped in to this pleasant country pub for drinks while staying on the Isle of Wight over Christmas. We ordered a pint of bitter, a glass of prosecco and a packet of crisps, and handed over a tenner. Sadly not enough - the drinks came to over £12! These are rip-off prices. In my local, an equally pleasant country pub,... More

Enjoyed a wonderful afternoon and evening with family and friends on New Years Eve. Lasagne was beautiful, and kids meals of burger and fish were left with clean plates. The top dish of the day was the Lamb Hotpot, which has prompted my husband to now go home and try to recreate!!! Thank you to the staff for being friendly... More

We decided to try the crown, since it is under new ownership. We ordered a jacket potato with beans, pie of the day, cheese baguette and lasagne.. so nothing overly challenging. My jacket potato came out with cold beans and the jacket potato was hardly cooked; I wasn't able to eat it. The lasagne was dry and had obviously been... More

The four of us visited as we were advised it had changed hands. There was a 40 minute wait for food. Staff were friendly but food overpriced and below average standard. Cheese baguette is not hard to serve but no idea of presentation with a pot of crushed crisps and salad thrown to the side . Jacket potato with beans... More

We live in Shorwell village but stopped going to the Crown some years ago as the landlords were so miserable, the food was expensive and very varied in quality (see previous reviews), and most locals had moved on to use other places in neighbouring villages. The new owners, Character Inns, took over only a couple of weeks ago, and what... More

Friendly and helpful reception from bar staff. We ordered a Turkey roast and a half roast BBQ chicken from the special board I had to pay 50p extra to get a Yorkshire pud which I thought was more than acceptable. Approximately half an hour later the food arrived and it looked extremely well presented as per photographs. The BBQ chicken... More

Description
The Crown Inn is located in the small village of Shorwell, just 5 miles from the centre of the Isle of Wight's principal town of Newport. Shorwell, a countryside village in the southwest, is a pretty, quiet little hideaway – the Post Office is its only shop! Throughout Shorwell you'll find thatched cottages, three impressive manor houses and a historic church. Customers at the village's Crown Inn enjoy an authentic country atmosphere, a log fire in winter and a rear garden complete with a trout stream. It's a welcoming destination for outdoor types who voted it Best Pub For Walkers in a recent Wightlink survey.

PLEASE NOTE: As of December 2016 The Crown Inn is under new ownership and management, please ignore older images and reviews.
