We have been eating at this restaurant for years and I should have reviewed it beforebut I now remedy that.It is a marvelous local restaurant. The food is seasonal. The pasta is exceptional with a range of sauces. The second course is also very very...good. The wine is locally sourced and is delicious. Alesandro Claudio and Viviana are all charming hosts. Highly recommended StephenMore

We ate here on the final evening of a yoga/art retreat in Benabbio, and I’m so glad we did! The first pasta course was the classic Italian pasta I had been longing for during my entire first week in Italy! The pasta is undoubtedly homemade...and cooked to the perfect al dente texture. Paired with porcini mushrooms harvested in the area, I was in absolute heaven enjoying this savory umami pasta. Among other dishes shared, the beef carpaccio was stellar. The beef was perfectly tender and paired harmoniously with the peppery bite of arugula (rocket) and salty parmesan which adorned it. The restaurant is small and modest but packs a punch when it comes to the quality and flavor of its food.More

We ate here on the first night of our holiday. We were a group of 6 adults and one child.Unfortunately our Italian was limited and the owners did not speak English. However from the set menu we managed to order a range of excellent pasta...dishes and a selection of good meat dishes to follow.More

My family at this restaurant twice during our recent stay in a villa between Benabbio and Bagni di Lucca--each time was completely different, each time was wonderful! The owner comes to your table and tells you in detail what is available--always fresh, local, and delicious....We thoroughly enjoyed having a great restaurant experience in this tiny gem of a village!More

We stayed in a villa between Bagni di Lucca and Benabbio, so this restaurant was just up the hill from us (10 - 15 minute walk). Our family group of 7 ate dinner here twice in the past week. Both meals were delicious. We don't...speak much Italian, and the chef/host doesn't speak much English, but he worked hard to help us understand and select dishes we would each enjoy (including for the two vegetarians in our group). The food was simply outstanding, the local wine was wonderful, and the desserts were fantastic. If you're staying near Bagni di Lucca, check out this restaurant. Be prepared - it is a bit of a drive up a rather curvy mountainous road. But if you don't have a car or aren't feeling up to a mountain drive, get Roberto, the taxi owner in Bagni di Lucca to take you.More

I visited this restaurant with my wife and 6 friends based on its good trip advisor reviews. The journey took about 40 minutes from our villa in the mountains and on our arrival I was disappointed. The restaurant initially appeared to be a small corner...cafe but we were escorted upstairs to a large dining room which lacked character but was comfortable. We were the only customers that night. It appeared the staff consisted of the elderly owner who was the chef and his wife who was the waitress. There is no menu and the waitress spoke no English which was fun. We agreed on a starter of a variety of pasta dishes which were all good. The second courses were disappointing. I chose a pork dish which consisted of 2 thin slices of pork in a lemon sauce. We all shared 2 small dishes of chips and a “ salad” which was a bowl of chopped lettuce. 3 of our party chose a vegetarian option that looked strange and included a lump of cheese. For desert we all asked the waitress for tiramisu. She initially said that it was not available today but she negotiated with the chef who kindly said he would knock one up for us all and presented us with an amazing desert. The service was efficient and nothing was too much trouble. As we left the restaurant we shared a complimentary glass of grappa with the chef. In summary, a pleasant evening. Not worth the 40 minute journey but the restaurant would be ok if we were staying more locally.More

One of our favorite "gifts of the day" experience as the six of us walked in as the restaurant was closing for lunch. Luckily a local was there to interpret for us and the owner seemed happy to sit us in the empty downstairs portion...of his lovely restaurant and fixed us a meal with what he had left and was planning to feed himself and his staff. You just can't beat homemade meatballs, spaghetti, and penne straight from the kitchen. Marinara sauce was exceptional. This place is up a long windy road full of Tuscany views and we were rewarded for our drive in the country. Parking is challenging. Our thanks again.....More

We had a great meal at Locanda Il Cavallino Bianco. There’s no menu - but the chef, Alessandro, took the time to explain everything to us. Alessandro was a fantastic, warm and friendly host. The food was excellent - the best we’ve had all trip....Highly recommend!More
