What a treat to enjoy a drink on a barge looking out at the water and other boats going past. We visited on a very hot Sunday afternoon and were told they had run out of food. This was disappointing but we still stayed for...More

This amazing tea room is set on the Resourceful barge in Promenade Park. Anchored in the Blackwater river, this could not be more idyllic for the area. We popped in on the day of the Mud Race; a glorious sunny day. Last year we were...More

What a lovely location to enjoy your lunch! It was a glorious day so we sat outside at the front of the deck. A charming setting on Maldon prom to watch the world go by. A great choice of reasonably priced delicious food, generous portions...More

I've never visited a tearoom on a barge before! This Barge now appears to be static so there's no risk of being sea sick. Negotiating a gang-plank to get on and off the barge was relatively easy and once 'aboard' there is a choice of...More

Friendly staff in a super setting. Bit chaotic but understandably, as the day was warm and the promenade very busy. We sat on deck but previously went below deck. The barge is lovely inside. Warm and cosy. Food is simple but fresh and very nice....More

We had a lovely afternoon tea here. The children had their own smaller afternoon tea, including jam sandwiches, which they loved. The adults afternoon tea was very filling!! Lovely boat, lovely food and service. Friendly from the moment I booked! Definitely will be back!

Description
Step aboard Barge Resourceful on Maldon's Hythe Quay and enjoy a tearoom experience whilst supporting Cooks Barge Yard and this historic vessel. Resourceful was built in 1931 as a cargo carrier and joined a fleet that once numbered over 2,000 strong. Today she earns her living as an unusual tearoom, serving lovely homemade food supplied by Maldon businesses. Whilst on board you can learn more about the Maldon barges and also Cooks Barge Yard on the Quay, established in 1894 and still used for barge repairs today. Profits from the tearoom will go back to helping maintain the Resourceful and the rest of the Topsail Sailing Barge Fleet keeping them afloat and in good condition for the future.
