The views from the restaurant are very soothing to the senses, with seating outdoors and indoors, ducks in the foreground, the rippling backwaters beyond, boats dancing to the sea breeze.
Chef Pratheesh and his team make the dining experience a treat every time. We tried many local dishes - prawns kumarakom, alleppy fish curry, prawn peera, veg mappas, theeyal, thoran, avial. Each dish has its own separate authentic feel and flavors. Pratheesh embodies the true spirit of hospitality and was even kind enough to prepare local dishes or variants that were not on the menu (when feasible). The desserts are good. The coconut panna cotta is unique and heavenly.
I highly recommend this restaurant for a truly authentic experience of Keralite cuisine, although the menu has enough dishes of other cuisines, which are equally perfectly made.

Been here with wife and daughter, and we all loved the Veg Alleppy Curry and Veg Kumarakom Curry. We wanted authentic local flavors, and both were absolutely delicious. Tickled the taste buds. I appreciate these more as I love coconut milk based dishes.
Also tried shallots and drumsticks in another local curry, and also preparation of mixed vegetables sauteed in coconut and spices. Both again lived up to expectations. North Indian food was also quite good. 5 stars for quality as well. We had few meals here during our 5 day stay, and never felt that we were short of vegetarian options.
Chef Prateesh is also very friendly, and made us understand the nuances of the flavors. This place is a must visit in Kumarakom!

when you meet chef Pratheesh, you are sure to notice his calm, composed and humble approach to life. it is when you start enjoying the delicacies that he creates as executive chef of "the waterside" restaurant in karma chakra resort in kumarakon that you start seeing him as one the best chefs in the area. the varied menu at "the waterside" includes regional curries, food from around the world, pasta and indian favourites. the local favorites section was, well, our favorite. avial, sambar, thoran, theeyal, mappas, moilee, peera - you name it and chef Pratheesh will make it for you, even items not in the menu. the dishes we just loved included mixed veg theeyal (on request), cauliflower and potato theeyal (on request), vendakkai pal city, vegetable mappas, alleppey veg curry, mix veg thoran, kumarakom prawn curry, alleppey fish curry and prawn peera (on request), to name a few. all in all, the waterside was a revelation to us as we tried one dish after another in our 7-day stay at the karma chakra kumarakom. highly recommended.

Nothing or rather nobody can beat the authentic taste of varied dishes prepared by the most talented young chef Mr.Pradosh at Karma Chakra resort's beautiful Waterfront restaurant.
There are so many verities of dishes to choose from, be it North Indian or South Indian, both Veg and Non-Veg. Generally any restaurant specialises in either one type but at Waterfront, the authentic taste of its original prepration of both types are amazingly well preserved. Since we are pure vegetarian, I had apprehension about the right taste if at all would be maintained for North Indian dishes, but to our delight and surprise, each and every Vegetarian items were just too good, as if prepared by a seasoned experienced chef of a 5 star resort.
Mr.Pradosh the chief cook, has this special abilities to reproduce the authentic taste, keeping in mind the right texture, right blend and using the exact ingredients depending on the particular dish. We tried our hands on South Indian verity as well which, of course goes without saying, was lip smacking, finger licking especially the typical Kerala mixed vegetable curry called Alleppey curry where even raw mangoes are used.
The entire team at the restaurant, Mr.Joys, Mr.Arun, Mr.Acchu etc are there to serve the guest with such warmth and pleasent gestures coupled with sweet smiles on their face that one would feel the homely atmosphere while being served.
In short, by all means and standard the Waterfront restaurant is the best in entire Kumarakom. The quantity served is also not at all miserly measured or rather it's full fledged servings. Karma Chakra resort's greatest gift to Kumarakom is this restaurant one should never miss while visiting Kumarakom even though one might stay else where.

The Waterside served some the best food we’ve had during our 4 week trip around India. Executive Chef Pratheesh even came to our table to explain how we can recreate his delicious dishes at home. Among our favourites were the Bhindi Masala and the Alleppy Vegetable Curry. The Coconut Pannacotta was amazing too. This restaurant is a must try if you are in the area!

Of all the places we tried, Waterside had the most authentic local flavours (at least what we felt). Spices to tickle your taste buds and the food was amazingly delicious.
Fish preparation was the best of all the places we tried.
The staff was pleasant and courteous, with good seating and ambience.
Its a must visit place in Kumarakom

After our first dinner we decided to come again the day after due to the excellent food. The menu offers a good variety of Indian dishes while the daily specials we picked were amazing. I would recommend the duck and the beef curry. Special thanks to Prateesh Prakash (exec chef) for his warm welcome!

We ate here every day during our week's stay at Karma Chakra Resort. The food was good but not completely to our taste, as all the meat dishes were served on the bone. The waiting staff did not completely understand what we were asking for when we requested boneless. By the end of the week, when the Restaurant Manager returned, their understanding improved and we were given almost boneless chicken in our curries. We suggest that the snack menu is served all day, as it offers an alternative to having Indian food at every meal of the day which would aid the resort's non-native visitors.
My husband loved the banana split and ate this most days, the freshly squeezed Pineapple juice was delicious but our western pallets did not relate to the addition of sugar or salt. The bread served at breakfast was also a little sweet, very reminiscent of Brioche. A fresh coffee machine would be a fantastic addition and a big improvement from the powdered coffee currently available.

This is the first time I'm ever posting a review online. I stayed with Karma Chakra a couple years back for a week with family. Barring around 3/4 meals, I had every single meal from breakfast to dinner at The Waterside. Believe me, I still think about the food every other day. As a thorough foodie, I was absolutely thrilled with the food at The Waterside. I ended up trying almost everything on the menu by the end of my trip and every dish I tried surpassed the one before. Today I couldn't take it anymore xD and decided to look their menu up to try finding the names of a couple dishes to try in restaurants where I'm from since I don't remember them. And decided to drop a much deserved review too, should've done this earlier! Kudos to the chef and all the staff at The Waterside and Karma Chakra. I am still recovering from how good the food was, from a whole week of being in a constant food coma. The sheer art that is their kerela porotta is simply too good. Nowhere else have I eaten a kerela porotta made as beautifully and perfectly as at The Waterside. This is totally gonna sound like a paid review but I kid you not the food there is simply outstanding. A guest of ours from the hospitality industry with many 5 star hotels under him living in kerela itself, having eaten from some of the best food esp kerelite from the best restaurants, was in love with the food too and said the kerela porotta was the best he'd eaten. Yes I'm totally trying to convince you reading this review to stop thinking and just GO. You've found the restaurant. This is it. Now go eat. And find heaven :")) cannot wait to return to this place.

We searched a lot of sites for good eating places in Kumarakom and finally zeroed in on this place. Although, we had anticipated the restaurant to be good (as per the reviews), but it turned out to far exceed our expectations. We ordered both veg and non-veg Indian dishes each one better than the previous one. We were pleasantly surprised by the balanced food flavours and spices with the waterside view keeping us company during our entire feast.

A restaurant that feels more like a canteen for school or a sad member’s only club for old people.
My husband and I read a great review about this place. We are not members so we didn’t stay at the hotel (which we are glad not to) and we did book for lunch.
The restaurant decor is old, plain and sad looking. The tables and chairs are very ordinary. The food was average and due to bad design, it echos when we talk.
I don’t recommend coming here to eat at all, members or not.

Excellent ambience clean and friendly staff who arranged everything as promised during initial discussion before arriving. Food was delicious and will definitely recommend friends and family to visit this place again. We celebrated 1st birthday of our daughter here which was very precious moment of our life and really enjoyed the day.

One of the best restaurants at Kumarakom. Part of the Karma Resort but easily accessible. Beautiful location and nice decor. Great food options. Went for an evening snack and stayed for the dinner. Enjoyed the Veg Pakoras which were very crisp and freshly cooked. The soups were great. Service is excellent. Sitting out is a great option specially in the evening but as it turns dark the mosquitoes can shoo you inside..., this by the way is all over Kumarakom !! Reasonably priced , the taste is great. Must visit !!

On a lunch visit, it wasn't that crowded. Restaurant and the property overlooks the Vembanad Lake. Has indoor as well as outdoor seating. Local cuisine - Fish and Chicken preparations were outstanding. Service was quick and warm. It's a well laid out boutique property and was quite charming to look at. A must visit to the restaurant if nearby.
