Lovely restaurant far away from the madding crowd situated alongside a beautiful river. Soup was served in a bamboo joint, and cocktails in grapefruits with bamboo straws. Really innovative! Friendly staff and great countryside atmosphere.

This restaurant with various thatched roof areas has been completely rebuilt to a high standard following Hurricane Mathew a couple of years ago. Excellent toilet facilities by the way. An extensive menu. Well cooked local food.Great cocktails. Friendly service. We took a taxi from town (door to door at a reasonable negotiated price). The driver waited while we did a three hour river trip in a row boat and walk and swimming and the meal. This is easy to organise and I think a better option than joining a large coach party.

Not far out of town and just off the main road is this Ranch. It caters for coach parties and smaller groups. They do a hog roast if enough notice given. Part of the fun is a rowing boat trip up and down stream of the Toa, watch out for the 6 fingered guide (Josef). It's recovering well from the last hurricane, though the main bridge to Moa was still out when we visited.

We enjoyed our stop for lunch there although there was not a great variety of food. The natural environment is very pretty. It is very near the river where you can canoe after wards. There was nice local music during lunch which we really liked!

And that is really saying something. The family run place was a Casa that we stayed at as well as a restaurant. The area had recovered well from a hurricane 5 months before.

Recently rebuilt because of the Hurricane in late October, the Tiki Huts are now on cement and not dirt. The food was excellent. This outside restaurant is along side a river.

You can visit the cocoa plantations here and will be given a history of cocoa and the chocolate making process for which Baracoas is well known. They serve a great set menu lunch here, however it is difficult to get food if you arrive after lunch time.

The only rain forest in Cuba is spread all over this area: trees double their sizes here and rivers are plentiful and big, being fed by rain all year round. El Toa is the the river with most water in Cuba, you can still see descendants of the island's native population (the Tainos) on canoes as their main means of local transportation.

We were used to mediocre lunches at state run restaurants so Rancho Toa was a pleasant surprise. The food--especially the roasted pork--was delicious and plentiful. The house drink (a rum citrus mix served in a grapefruit) was refreshingly pleasant and not too sweet. And the musicians were great! A fun time before a pleasant boat ride on the river.

Lovely shady riverbank spot. Musicians played during an average meal but the rowboat ride after was intimate, simple and sweet.

This was one of many lunches while travelling in Cuba. This place was interesting with a guided tour initially then we sat down for a great "pig on the spit " lunch. The accompanying band was just great and the singers were fabulous. It is not far away from Baracoa and is well worth the visit for lunch. You can go on a boat ride as well prior to lunch or after on the river which is very close by.

Last June my friend and I were staying in Baracoa for a few nights. We really wanted to go to the beach . It was very hot, so we made a stopover at Rancho To a. It was the best! We only had a drink, but that was enough to enjoy the awesome view.

The place is a few kilometers away from the city. They do not have much choice if you do not make appointment first. During our visit they did not have seafood we wanted in the place. Our driver took a trip to the house of one of the restaurants attendants to bring some river shrimps. In the meantime we took the boat trip. The ready meal was served and tasted very good.

We stayed in Baracoa for two nights before flying back to Havana. We took the "cruise" on the river which was very good. Our oarsman must have been about 75, but he managed to take us up the river and then back to the dock with no problems. Lunch at Rancho Toa was excellent, with a roasted pig as the centre piece of the table along with all the other vegetables, etc.
