We came across this place by accident (it's very easy to miss it from the outside). The owner who is lovely does sort of a set menu based on fresh ingredients he has at the time. It was 10 CUC per person which might sound above normal but the food and environment are both expetional. We had a bean stew, a spiced dish of grated coconut and a sort of pizza base made of plantain. The flavours were zingy and interesting and delicious, and all amazingly presented. The decor is unique and rustic and the whole place feels relaxing and homely. Cannot recommend highly enough. Just as a heads up they'd to serve alcohol or coffee, but did have some delicious mint tea.

Most incredible original flavours in Cuba. We have travelled here for six weeks so far and this is an absolute highlight. We went twice in three days here. YOU MUST BOOK AND PAY IN ADVANCE, as the situation in Cuba is difficult - the chef cannot use ingredients for no shows. Everything was ready and beautifully laid out for our arrival. Including a delicious pudding. Rustic location, nice atmosphere and the best vegan meal I’ve had here by far.

I went with my family to Baracoando for the second time recently. I can't recommend this place enough, especially for vegetarians, but really for anyone who appreciates delicious local fruits and vegetables prepared with creativity and care. We had plantains done various ways, squash, pasta, white beans, soup, herbal tea -- it was very tasty and filling. The space is decked out in reclaimed materials and beautiful plants. It feels nice to be there, and the owner/chef is a friendly and joyful character. We'll keep going back, every time we are in Baracoa. Highly recommend!

Indeed, a one of a kind experience. The food was excellent, but the most distinctive aspect of our dinner was chatting with our host, Smith. His stories about his life as a photographer and chef were intriguing and his mood was charming and friendly. He and a neighbour were working on rebuilding (still, after the Hurricane devastated the area and much of the town) but took a pause to cook us a fantastic meal. Vegetarians and vegans will find this a tasty and wonderful change from the fish/meat + 3 starches (rice, yuca or taro and fried plantain) that characterize most restaurant meals. That said, the grated banana/plantain + root pancake was a revelation. The cucumber canoes filled with spiced veggies were also delicious. Best of all was the chef's style. I would certainly return!

Best restaurant in Cuba. We had a fantastic night enjoying the most delicious, organic and lovingly prepared food. The service and conversation with the chef/owner was really inspiring and informative. A must visit if in Baracoa.

One of the best food experiences I've had in my whole life. Travelling through Cuba as a vegetarian was not very easy, so I was absolutely delighted, when I was staying in Baracoa and I found out about Arístides restaurant. The food is heavenly good and the chef is an absolute genius. I enjoyed Baracoa so much, that I extended my stay 3 times and I ate at Baracoando every single evening. Never felt healthier before than during that time. I took a cooking class with Arístides too and he taught me how to make 6 different salsas with the same ingredients. He also tried to make sure they were ingredients that I could also find back in Germany. The picture shows the result of that cooking class. Thank you so much for this exceptional experience and until next time!

After I complained to him about the bad Cuban food, one of the locals of Baracoa showed me this place. Inside what seems like an old shed hides a miracle of a restaurant. Next to an old bike, a glassless window and the crops of the day, and while seated on a log, I got to taste the most incredible food in years. Eating here is an experience and something you'll tell your friends and family about. Worth traveling to Baracoa for and perhaps even worth traveling to Cuba for. Magnificent!

The best food I have had in Cuba by far! Ingredients are often sparse and especially as a vegan or vegetarian you end up just eating the same food over and over again which ist basically rice and plantains. This restaurant looks like straight out of a fairytale and the owner (whose name I sadly forgot) is basically the fairy godmother of vegan food. He was so welcoming, kind and most of all passionate about his food creations. Everything he cooks comes from his garden and he served us about eleven different dishes, buffet style. The flavours were so original, so fresh and creative and overall just so delicious! I live in Berlin which is basically a vegan food heaven and let me tell you this meal has been like nothing I have ever tasted in the best possible way! I am beyond happy and will go to bed dreaming of the food I ate today!

Really really good. In Europe you eat this kind of food in a star-restaurant. Here in Baracoa the chef gives you the very best of the natural resources that grow on the island. Recommended. Food is always vegetarian (way way way better than the chicken or fish you normally eat). If needed, the chef knows how to cook gluten free and keep other dietary wishes into account.

We had dinner at Baracoando during our trip to Cuba in 2018, and the memory stayed with us the past years. The food was amazing, the setting surreal, and the chef shared many interesting stories about his life, the region, the people and the food that made it an unforgettable experience. We are still thinking about it until today, so we thought it's finally time to also leave a review. Better late than never :) If you have the chance to visit Baracoando, don't miss it (but do book in advance).

Most recommended restaurant in baracoa and maybe in whole Cuba! You need to do reservations and pay some money in advance! Do bother to do that because what you get in return is the best restaurant in whole Cuba. Mostly vegan: rice, beans, and many different vegetables in different ways of making. But the most basic, yet rare in Cuba, is the use of spices which add flavour to the dish. It seems like a fusion from many parts of the world, and if someone finally care about taste and flavour in Cuba. Unique combination of tastes and flavours. We cleaned our plaits (see picture no. 5) and we booked for tomorrow again!

In a country which is not the best for vegetarians, this was a fantastic restaurant. Mr Smith is so passionate and happy, it truly is an inspiration. And he sources his food fresh everyday, and all so delicious and has great flavour! If in Baracoa, you must visit here even if you eat meat! You will leave feeling energised and satisfied with your meal!

An incredible experience taking a cooking class with Chef Aristides. All natural, locally sourced ingredients prepared before our eyes. A great experience for those interested in authentic Cuban vegetarian cuisine.

great vegetarian restaurant hidden away. Freshly sourced. Great Flavours. No menu just a spread of 7-9 dishes. Easily best place to eat in Baracoa and possibly the most unique in Cuba. Eat here twice. don't be put of by the external appearance and make a reservation (by popping in) to avoid disappointment.

Aristides is an amazing host and chef. We found the restaurant by accident wondered in off the street through the back door. He cooked us an amazing vegetarian risotto right there. The mixing of flavors and the tastes were truly magical. Don't be put off by the rustic environment. This was one of the best restaurants that we visited in Cuba. Very innovate. Aristides has wonderful stories. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.
