We had been on a Caribbean cruise which ended in Barbados. I wanted to book a meal somewhere a bit special on our final evening before flying home, and after studying hundreds of reviews of several restaurants I opted for Primo Bar & Grill. Good decision! Wonderful location especially when the sun set over the Caribbean Sea. The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely outstanding. It's not cheap, nor should it be. But when you consider the location, service, and qualify of the cuisine, I felt we had had decent value for money. I would recommend Primo to anyone looking for somewhere special to eat, whether it's to celebrate a special occasion or just because! I hope to return to Barbados one day and if I do I'll definitely dine at Primo again.

Honestly cannot say enough good things about this wonderful restaurant .
Made 2 separate online reservations , one for each of the two weeks we were staying in Barbados .
They asked about allergies . Much appreciated as this is an important question and of great importance when travelling . Our daughter has a seafood and fish allergy which can be difficult to deal with when dining out particularly in the islands .
On our first week we visited on Monday,February 10 as a family of 6 including 2 older children who ordered from the adult menu .
From the moment we arrived we were treated with the greatest of kindness . We were greeted by Omar (front of house ) and Paul( our waiter ) and immediately felt comfortable having their assurance’s that there would be no issues regarding her allergies or cross contamination.
We were also given a lovely table along the waters edge .
We all ordered different meals including some with seafood or fish .
The food was superb , beautifully prepared . The service was impeccable.
My daughter declared her meal delicious and was even able to sample some of the the other meals that were seafood and fish free after conferring with our waiter and being given the go ahead .
We were charmed not just by the food but by their kind and caring attitude..
The one day we did not have a reservation for that week was Valentines Day . Popular day on the island as it is at home , difficult to get reservations in some places even far in advance . Compound that with the fact most restaurants have set menus for this occasion and all the ones I had checked out were very heavy on seafood and fish .
As we were leaving my son-in-law decided to ask if there was a possibility they might by chance be able to accommodate us Valentines Evening . Couldn’t believe they actually said they would . 6:30 pm reservation and although we didn’t have a waterside table , they seated us at a round table just back from the waters edge .
It was a set menu but there were still great choices for my daughter . Our server this time was Ron and he was charming . It was another wonderful meal and evening thanks to these kind people .
We returned the following week for our second reservation with our friends. This time our waiter was Dwayne . Impeccable service once again . Paul was serving nearby and actually stopped by to chat for a moment . Our friends loved the restaurant, their meal and the service.
Definitely a destination for all of us next time we are in Barbados and will highly recommend it to other family and friends.
Thank you once again to Paul from the beautiful parish of St Phillips❤️ , Omar, Ron , Dwayne and Sesell ( general manager)

We visited 3 recommended restaurants while in Barbados, and though this was my least favourite, it was still really good (and it was the least expensive, so fair enough). We arrived without a reservation and were seated in the outdoor "bar" area but at a table by the railing, looking out on the water, so location was top notch. Service was fine. Food was good quality though not exciting. Price was right for what it was (Barbados is an expensive island). Would visit again.

Went here for my dads birthday on monday, safe to say the experience is one we won’t be wanting to re-visit again. Two of the starters came out wrong and had to scrape half the topping off, then for the mains we had asked for no mushroom in one of the meals, when it came of course there was mushroom in it(which we wasn’t surprised with after the starters) the waiter sent it back as he noticed it straight away but the meal didn’t come back out again untill the rest of us had pretty much finished..then when it did finally come back out it was covered in a load of spring onion to which you couldn’t really taste anything else..bearing in mind this meal was only a carbonara..how can you get this wrong? Safe to say we did not pay for the carbonara not that it made any difference as there was a nearly $60 service charge on top of the bill anyway which was apparently compulsory. Can’t even try justify any of the night by the other meals being fantastic because they tasted like they had all been cooked in a pan of salt. Nice setting on the beach and that’s the only thing good about this place.

Lovely restaurant and beautiful location. We had a table for two right on the waters edge - lovely. Service was friendly an fast and all appeared good.
When my main course arrived (Spaghetti Vongole) it was prawns in tomato sauce?
When I pointed this out and said it was not what I ordered I was eventually told it’s because they did not have any mussels or clams and so 5hey had given me prawns in tomato sauce! What the hell? I said not only was this not what I had ordered but I did not like spaghetti in tomato sauce .... I was told not to get flustered as I would not be charged for it. When the bill came I had been charged and I then pointed this out.
At the reception desk to pay when I said I was not paying for the main course and was not leaving a tip I was treated like dirt! A real shame .... a lovely restaurant but bad attitude. Why should it be like this?
I honestly thought they would ride their luck and hope that no one would bother to complain. Shame

Thank you for your feedback. I believe the issue was that the suppliers were out of stock of clams, this should have been communicated when you placed your order but obviously wasn’t. Can you please send me an email with the name on the reservation so I can I identify the waiter to ensure it is addressed with him. Joanne.pooler@chapsrestaurants.com

We visit Barbados most years around Xmas & New Year and have eaten at Primo on more than one occasion. It was nearing the end of our holiday and we chose this restaurant for one of our last meals together in Barbados. I requested a tail side table but unfortunately we were seated at a table upstairs in the corner with no lighting as the bulb appeared to have gone - it was so dark. We asked for a replacement bulb or to be moved to another table. The lady looking after us wasn’t impressed with our request and after a wait she returned and told us to pick up our menus and follow her. It sounds petty but we didn’t want to walk through the restaurant carrying our menus! We were seated at a well lit table and left there for sometime. The lady returned and asked why we hadn’t bought the menus with us and rolled her eyes, huffed and off she went. Extremely rude. We were then left at the table with no service. After a while another waiter came over to ask why we haven’t got menus, had we been given water/wine list etc... we did mention the lady’s rude behaviour. Not a great start and at this point we weren’t feeling particularly enthusiastic. The manager did come over but we didn’t cause a fuss. Starters and main were “good” but nothing overwhelming. Compared to other restaurants the service was not great and neither the ambience. After many years eating here with friends & family I will not be in a rush to return. Friends from different social circles had passed comment to us beforehand about their unsatisfactory experience which we had dismissed but sadly our recent visit was lack lustre and unimpressive.

Arrived at 825 for an 830 reservation. Asked to wait in the very nicely appointed bar area. By 9pm no one had asked us if we wanted a drink or apologized for the wait. Now I am all for being more laid back when on a Caribbean island but there really is no excuse for a 30 minute wait when we had a reservation. After asking why no one has said anything to us or offered us a drink we were amazingly (and gruffly) seated without so much as an apology for the wait or an offer of a drink. We ordered by 915 and waited till after 10pm for our meal to arrive. The food was very good but not spectacular. I asked for the chicken to be well done - it wasn't and the spaghetti volgone had maybe two ounces of spaghetti (it was I admit expertly prepared). We did get a free birthday dessert as my reservation did indicate we were celebrating a birthday. Beautiful location on the water is one other plus but I'd prefer good service to good location.

This used to he one of our favorites but sadly based on our two dinners this trip it has slipped badly. It seemed to be a kitchen & bar issue since our waiters seemed upset. Further on both nights others around us were also visibly upset with the wait. The manager did apologize and offer drinks and desserts but that still did not make up for a nearly Three Hour dinner for two. Hope your experience is better.

My husband and I spend the evening in the Restaurant Primo. The whole location looks very elegant and we got a friendly welcome. Our table was at the beachside as requested. First we got ‚greetings from the kitchen‘ which came as olive oil and balsamico vinegar and flufffy salted butter accompagnied with two buns of homemade herb-bread. We hab chicken-liver pate and coconut shrimps as a starter, followed by bbq pork ribs and a rib-eyesteak. For dessert we had bread and butter pudding and white chocolate cheesecake. The service was really friendly, we didn‘t have to wait to get the food. The food itself was really very tasty and nice decorated. We will return! Besides: the reservation online was very easy and worked excellent

Primo has it all! Tables right beside the water, delicious food, and the friendliest staff of any of the restaurants that we have visited in Barbados. The thing that sets this restaurant apart is the first class service that manages to be neither too formal or too familiar. We have had the most amazing waiters here who make us feel so comfortable and at home. It doesn’t hurt that they have the most delicious Parmesan coated barracuda and their ‘Death by chocolate’ dessert that is truly to die for!

My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Primo on the recommendation of our condo manager and their reputation online. We were seated promptly at a seaside table by our Maitre ‘D and were provided with the specials for the evening. We were served by Dwayne who was very attentive but most likely fairly new as a couple of minor errors occurred but we didn’t mind (he got our wine selection wrong and we ordered the Greek salad that was on special but were served the Greek & Quinoa salad that was on the appetizer menu. We didn’t mind as it was delicious. I had a delicious lamb shank and my wife enjoyed her scallops entree. We ordered a nice bottle of Mud House pinot noir from New Zealand which paired well with both dishes. We split the Grand Marnier creme brulee for dessert. Overall, the experience was very enjoyable and the service from all the wait staff was excellent. Highly recommended.

The food was good but the waiter Bruce Lee was very rude. We asked him questions because we had never been to the restaurant he was not very helpful at all. His response was rude and he acted as if he really didn't want to wait on us. I have never been treated this way before at an resturant in any country that I have been to. When I do return to Barbados I will not visit this restaurant again.

My boyfriend and I had dinner here on the last night of our holiday. The food and drinks were absolutely great, and service was even better. We had starters, main courses, and a couple of drinks and wine each, and enjoyed everything. It was extremely thoughtful for the waiter(s) to remember us mentioning it was our last night, as we recieved a small dessert wishing us ”bon voyage”. The atmosphere of this place is also great. I have no complaints, and would strongly recommend dining here!

My boyfriend and I were so excited to come here for our date night. It was our second night here on the island and we had booked primo as a more expensive, but romantic meal.
We walked in just before 7.30pm for our reservation. We were not so welcomed by the ruuude manager. She told us our table wouldn’t be long so we sat down and waited whilst both ordering a drink.
We both had a daiquiri each which were actually really pleasant. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful but that is about as far as it goes…
45 minutes later the manager comes past and we politely ask how much longer it will take to which she rudely responds with that as it’s a water front table she’s just waiting for whose sat there to pay.
We wish she would’ve just warned us it would’ve taken this long. We would’ve been fine with it but don’t tell us it won’t be long if we will be waiting for 45 minutes…
So we finally go downstairs to get seated. The waiter who served us was actually really sweet which we were so pleased with.
My partner and I both ordered the steak. What a mistake. Firstly, it took an additional 45 minutes for
this to come out. So by now it has been 1.5 hours since our reservation. Our steaks come out both absolutely chargrilled to sh*t aswell as we both asked to swap our mash for fries which they didn’t do. We had to remind them once it came out that we asked for this so it took another couple of minutes to get our fries. To which they came out boiling hot but completely raw.
We haven’t come across any restaurant on the island that serves any other cut aside from ribeye. We both knew we ordered a ribeye cut but Jesus Christ! It a extremely extremely fatty piece of meat… it was so unenjoyable especially as it was utterly burnt, accompanied with completely raw chips. This steak cost 110 Barbados which is about £40…
We politely tell the waiter how we feel and he apologises and tells us he will get it resent out straight away. He even said if I were you I would feel the exact same way. 20 minutes later, both our meals come out again. Not burnt this time, chips cooked well but on my second bite of my steak I bite into something rock hard, something which looks like a metal ring! My partner and I genuinely couldn’t believe it. Totally off putting and completely unacceptable especially as you are paying £40 for this steak! Just to bare in mind that £40 in London would get you the best fillet steak you’ve ever had.
We let the waiter know and mention we are more than happy to pay for our drinks but we don’t feel happy to pay for our food. He totally understands and gets that sorted for us. Luckily he was so kind but the manager was so rude and the food was awful. Sooooo expensive and totally not worth it.
I have no clue how this place is so highly rated as we felt unwelcome from the moment we walked in. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

We have just eaten at ‘Primo’ this evening! Initially service was attentive, but then as it got busier, service declined to a very low level! We ordered steak which was extremely fatty, really had to pick about to avoid too much fat which made up a third of the steak. We waited about an hour between starter and main course and it was very difficult to get a waiters attention to ask for anything! Staff definitely spread too thin! On leaving and paying, we were asked if everything was good, my husband told the lady how disappointed we were with the steak, she brushed over this and we felt ‘fobbed off’ also we were asked whether we wanted to give a gratuity for service! We were already paying 10% and service was not coordinated or good enough for the standard of restaurant they are trying to be!!! Avoid this one and try Champers and Tapas instead. We do not mind paying for a lovely meal in a well located restaurant with atmosphere and ambiance! All they are interested in clearly is getting as many people through as possible but do not have the staff to cope with the volume! Do yourselves a favour and ‘swerve’ this restaurant, it isn’t worth the high price!
