We decided to escape Merida overnight and headed to Celestun. We walked into town in the morning looking for breakfast and happened upon Casa Peon. It had the right look so we decided to give it a try. What a lucky decision! Homemade whole grain bread, homemade jams, delicious omelets and fresh squeeed juices. I could have just eaten the... Read the reviews and thought we would give Casa Peon a try. Wow... it was awful. Can't explain why so many people love this place. We come to Mexico (Cancun, Playa, Merida) 4-6 weeks per year, and this was by far the worst meal. The clue should have been when they brought out the chips... round generic store bought chips.... Just returned from a visit to Celestun for the first time. As it is not quite summer, there are not many tourists, so now is the time to go. Casa Peon is located at the end of the main street, but worth the visit! The interior is decorated with interesting murals of the five continents and objets d'art. Quaint but... More

The last time we visited Casa Peon, they had a more upscale menu - this time, it was more casual but still very good. We stopped by for lunch and because they were closed, they asked us to come back at 730pm for dinner. We did just that and they were waiting for us -- we were shown to a... More

Celestun is a sleepy town on the west coast of the Yucatan Penninsula. It is getting a lot of attention because of the opportunity to see Flamingos in droves during their winter mating season. Meridanos went to this area for the beautiful beachs and great seafood restaurants on the beach. On our most recent visit we checked into the hotel... More

Celestun with its long white empty beaches is the best place to relax, and Casa Peon is the best place in Celestun to sleep, eat and make new friends! Very inspiring surrounding, created by an artist. Good food at fair prices. The hosts are very helpful and assist you in just about everything you need as a traveller.

We visted here for dinner in March 2011 and it was just excellent! The restaurant itself has a real funky ambience (due to part of it being within the ruins of an old building), which sets it apart from the other palapa type places in Celestun. Although the dinner menu was not extensive, there were enough interesting dishes. The food... More

We had a lovely dinner that was absolutely delicious at Casa Peon this week. My husband raved about his fish and we had a great evening in this charming restaurant. In fact, we tried to go back for breakfast the next day, but it was their day off. Definitely recommend you give it a try.

I read all the reviews before I went - as well as some others from hotels in Celestun. Maybe there are new owners or a new chef - but the food was awful! The staff were very friendly and helpful but the food was really quite bad. Now -having said that - there was only one other restaurant open in... More
