Delicious food in a beautiful location with questionable service

We visited this restaurant for dinner based on research for one of the best seafood and Mediterranean establishments in the area and I can say that it mostly lived up to this expectation. The first impression was rather confusing - we had a waiter tell us in very poor English (probably the worst I have encountered anywhere in Mallorca) that we are supposed to go inside to order our food with no explanation as to why. This was a bit strange to us, however we understood afterwards that we have to see their selection of seafood to be able to make our choice. They have no menus to give out and one has to go inside to see their regular offerings. We went with the octopus for a starter, and this was by far my favorite meal of all I have tried in Mallorca (although pricey, in addition to not knowing what the price would be when ordering). We had 330g of octopus grilled to perfection with a simple drizzle of olive oil, garlic and sea salt - really a great experience. Afterwards, we ordered the seafood paella which was served onto our plates by the waiters after it was brought to us as well as whenever they saw we wanted to get some more. In this sense, the food and the service was great. However, the reason for questionable service lies in the fact that they confused us a lot in the beginning which almost caused us to leave the restaurant (glad we haven't done that). Overall, I would recommend, but make sure you check the prices beforehand and prepare for the waiters to be on the slower side during busy times.

Best octopus and always fresh fish

Best fresh fish in town, they serve my favourite octopus dish in the whole island. Fernando is a great host, who will guide you to choose your dish from their lovely sea food counter according to your taste. Amazing beach view, great location, and child friendly staff. We enjoy our visit to Sa Barca every time we are back in Mallorca.

Fresh and delicious food, friendly staff and great view

I with my husband were there 14.08 during 13:30-15:00. We didn't reserved a table but friendly waitress siggested us the second table near window.There are great view of sea, nice interior. We ate fresh shrimps with good cold beer. We were waiting for paella with seafood around an hour (more than staff said) but they excused and gave us free beer for each person. It was very pleasant. Paella was delicious and we can't eat all. In the end a waitress brought us sweet limon sorbet for free, it was cooling and great. Thank you for great atmosphere!

Terrible service

Visited this restaurant and was extremely disappointed. They wrongly sent our paella order to another table (who ate it) fairly limited options otherwise and had to order the sea bream as it was closing and we had waited for nearly 2 hours by this point. To top this off they then dropped the jug of sangria on the floor. When I then queried why there was no discount on the bill and why we had been expected to pay full price they were very rude, eventually they agreed to taking the cost of the main off the bill. I would have expected them to do this after their error immediately. Overall food was decent enough but the service and attitude is terrible. Spend your money elsewhere..

Great Spanish food

Stubbled across this restaurant due to the great reviews and it didn’t disappoint. Waitresses were lovely and very welcoming. When ordering our food at the counter they advised what we had ordered was enough, which is appreciated as sometimes our eyes are bigger than our bellies! It was great to see all the seafood in front of you. Bread and olives brought to the table and were the best olives I’ve had in Palma so far! The octopus is a must, very tender, fresh and grilled to perfection. The padron peppers were equally nice. The seafood paella (‘cleaned’ therefore no shells) was delicious - very moreish! All washed down with a great bottle of red. The views of the beach and then the sunset made it even more perfect. The reason I’m not giving 5 stars was because the lemon dessert wasn’t the best. I couldn’t taste the lemon and was very heavy like a thick cake. I was expecting something light and refreshing. I’m sure the other cakes they offered would have been better, therefore, maybe a bad choice on my part. Overall I’d recommend this restaurant and would go back.

Not even as close as expectations

We went there for dinner on Friday evening after doing some researches online and it looked kind of promising. As we arrived we got assigned our table and asked for drinks. Until now everything was good. Our waitress asked us if we knew how the restaurant orders system worked, no menu was given to us .. She told us that we have to go to the back to choose the fish/seafood on the display ( the seafood is displayed on ice with the price in Kilos and you choose the quantity you wish to have, they will cook it and bring it to your table). Went there and we choose our dinner. I also asked if the prawns (gambas) could be cooked in oil and garlic and i have been told a big No without any further explanation why. Back to the table, i asked our waitress again, showing her the online menu with that dish written in there "Gambones sin piel al Ajillo" and she told us that the owner did not mention anything to them. Either no communication, menu changed, don't know what really think about it.. We ordered Pulpo a la plancha, 6 gambas, 3 vieira grande (scallops) and calamar rings. Right before the pulpo, we got delivered bread with some olives and mayo/garlic sauce. We thought it was to go along with the pulpo. Surprise surprise when we asked for the bill we got charged 4.80 euros for that. We did not order it but we ate it thinking it was normal to bring some bread to the table during dinner or lunch. I work in the hospitality industry too, however we always asked the guest before giving for granted anything to avoid this kind of situations. Dinner was ok, nothing special definitely not worth it the 75euros total, which isn't much but i believe it is for what we got that evening.

Amazing!

My husband, 4 year old son and I went to Sa Barca one Saturday for lunch and were amazed. We ordered some appetizers and could immediately tell that it was fresh and made on the spot. The batter for the calamari was delicious and light. My son had the spaghetti and he enjoyed it very much. My husband and I had a paella and we were so thrilled to have had one that was so natural...full of flavor. It was just right and we’ve had our share of paellas. Totally recommend eating there. The staff was great as well. Very friendly and ready to help and answer any questions we had. We are happy to have found a place that is so open and which thinks of the whole family. Thank you Sa Barca. We will return!

You are seated then go up to the fish market and counter (in the restaurant) to select your starter and main courses. Highly recommended are the ham, pradron peppers to start. The grilled turbot was a fantastic main course. Desserts are also great, probably not gluten or dairy free as told when we asked.

Avoid, overpriced

We recommend to avoid. We visited restaurant couple days ago for a lunch. We orderd fish (tasty, and only this is why we put 2 starts) but small and much overpriced. Addition to fish was potatos and some vegetables from water - overcooked and tastless. In addition to this we got starters after we received main dishes (and restaurant wasnt full).

She who must be obeyed and I dined here last evening. Sitting in the evening sun 100 mtrs from the beach. The sparrows have no fear of people and happily fly onto the chair alongside you to bum a morsel of food. Soo cute. The octopus starter was to die for. Moist and succulent with a garlic and chargrill flavor. I want that every day for lunch.😁 The paella for two is devine. Full of shellfish and chicken mostly shellfish. Devine. Outside tables a little confused on service. Hense only 4 stars. But a must. Octopus starter Paella for 2 3 pints beer 3 sparkling water 85 euro

Very busy Restuarant service was quite slow although very professional and friendly and would have still been happy but the food was a little underwhelming also it wasn’t terrible but tasted a little bland especially in comparison to such amazing food found across the island. The price for this just seemed too much for what was provided. Okay nothing more, nothing less.

Not worth the price

The tables were not wiped from previous use. The ordering system is confusing. It may be customary to charge for bread and olives in Spain but tourists may not necessarily know about this so it would be nice to let customers know. Would not recommend. For the price we payed we definitely expected more. (The waiter was nice and kind, though).

Since we arrived we felt neglected, we had to get up to order food at a bar and when asking about the oysters they told us “we have been open since the morning” in a certainly worrying tone. I would have preferred them to tell me “we have sold out”, in the end we all understand that good products sell well and quickly. When we take the order of: clams, shrimp, razor clams, scallops, mussels, he asks us where are you sitting? on what table number? The answer was "we don't know, they have seated us and they haven't shown us a table." Finally we sat down waiting for our drinks order to be taken, which also took 5 minutes after the food order. We ordered a bottle of Tierras Gaudas and when they brought it to us they told us that they were going to get the ice bucket, which did not come. After a while they bring us an appetizer of olives and ali olí with bread, and they bring us all the requested products at the same time, without any type of pass, space or wait. All at once, to which we told them that it was going to get cold and the waiter responded “everything fits.” My response was to tell him not to worry (in the end you have to empathize), and in the process we asked him for the bread that had run out. All of this may be understandable, but I think you have to be clear with clients and not try to bill for the sake of billing. After a while of waiting and eating in a hurry, I asked for the ice bucket that never came and the bread that they didn't want to bring. Finally they told us that there was only one bread left and that there was none for my companion, that if we wanted it we had to wait 15 minutes. We had dinner, asked for the bill and left. Gentlemen hoteliers, we are too. The treatment from the door leaves something to be desired, the product is good and in a good location but treatment, service and above all clarity and intention on their part is disastrous. If a table arrives at a late hour (within their opening hours) they must be clear and tell them that they are closing (we arrived at 10:00 p.m. and the closing time is at 11:00 p.m.). What you cannot do is try to bill at all costs, providing a clearly unintentional and very very mediocre service. Hot wine, cold food and beginner and flawed treatment. 120 euros account! Take advantage!

Don’t have high expectations

The fact I am writing a review means the place is bad. I love seafood and coming from Australia maybe I am lucky that we have good seafood. I have to say that this was the worst seafood platter I have ever had, whilst the wait staff tried hard the service was poor. The only good thing about this restaurant was the music selection. So if you want to sit and listen to good music it’s not a bad place. But if you want good food there is KFC a few hundred metres down the road where you might be able to get something good
