Located in the old French town along Bhartidasan Park, 1 Rue Suffren is just a minute walk from the famous Promenade Beach. We serve Indian and Continental dishes and offer outdoor dining at the cafe. Local dishes, culinary treats and cocktails are served at the resto-bar. We are located in the heart of the city amidst all the attractions and we offer the best of hospitality to our guests.

Best Sea food in pondicherry

This is restaurant in French colony , and the ambiance of the restaurant is also like that of an old French mansion with long corridors and traditional doors . The food here is awesome especially the grilled fish and prawns . Also the staff here is very polite and friendly , special thanks to Reema , she was very good . The manager was also very polite and friendly . I recommend this restaurant to all those who want to have authentic seafood .

A must visit when in Pondicherry

Do not forget to put 1, before you type Rue Suffren on Google Map. Rue Suffren is the name of the locality, and this restaurant is numbered as 1, and that exactly is its place as well among all the restaurants in Pondicherry. Global cuisine is served here. Team is just awesome, nothing is too much for them. Look at the way they maintain the hygiene. The designer has done an awesome job, while you sit in the restaurant you will travel back in the memories of Pre-40's Era. Look out for Govind, the Charasmatic GM of the place. Ask him about his advsntures in life and keep you entertained. Good man with great heart. Anything missing, I guess nothing at all.

Decent dinner location

had our final evening dinner in Pondicherry here. This location is quite similar to most of the more upmarket places in White Town, a diverse menu, generally well served and agreeable. Service was good.

Over rated restaurant

Went there for dinner with family. Ambience is good.. Nice place . Service could be better . Food was okay but in very small quantities with the high rates they charge. Rest room facilities are far and difficult for elderly in the family. Overall, an over rated restaurant

Good food Nice ambience but pathetic service by Priya

I went to this restaurant for dinner on 14th August with my husband and 4 years old son. After waiting for 45 min we finally got a table with two chairs. A tall lady named Priya came to serve us. Requested for an extra chair/baby chair whatever is available and convenient for them. She smiled and went away. No one gave us an extra chair. We say a baby sit at a corner and caught hold of that. Next she came with two big glasses of water. My son was thirsty. Requested her for a small glass for the kid. She smiled again but no one gave us the glass. After waiting for sometime, we found her and asked for menu card. This time smile and menu card was also given. We ordered for a Pasta for kid, a nachos and a chicken roulade. Requested her to come back after 10 min for the drinks order. She did not come back. My husband went near the counter and caught hold of the manager for drinks order. She came back with the manager and told you already placed order. Anyway, the manager took drinks order. We were served drinks, nachos and pasta. Pasta was ok. The salsa and hummus with Nachos were delicious. After almost 45 min we asked her for chicken roulade and she told (off course with a smile) that you have not ordered it. It was almost 10 pm. We requested her to take the order again and she told it will take half an hour. I told her then should we leave without dinner and she smiled and went away. Later we caught hold of manager again , order the dish, it came after 20 min and it was extremely good. No complaint about food or ambience...but this lady Priya must be sent for basic hospitality training before she serves again!!

Exceptional culinary experience

Nestled in the french quarters, everything about this place oozes class! From the French architecture to the stairs leading upto a magnificent patio to the indoor air conditioned comfort of the restaurant the vibe is phenomenal. The food we ordered was an eclectic mix of lasagna, fish n chips, prawn fritters and ratatouille. The best of the lot was fish n chips but the rest were no pushovers either! The ambience was spot on as was the service provided by Aditi and the exceptional floor manager. There was a slight delay in our order and he more than compensated it with a couple of chocolate brownies with ice cream and 2 vodka shots to boot!!! That shows how they look upon their customers...truly heartwarming!! So 5 stars for an exceptional culinary experience and their magnanimous management! It's an absolute must visit in pondy!!

Mixed Experience at Rue Suffren: Great Ambiance, Overpriced Food

I visited Rue Suffren for dinner with my family two days ago after seeing positive reviews on social media. The restaurant had ample parking, and no reservation was needed since it was a weekday and off-season. The grand French-style stairs lead to a spacious double-height balcony with street views, but we chose indoor seating due to the weather. The service was a bit slow. I tried the classic French fries (INR 285), which were good and crispy, and the Poulet Au Fromage (INR 525), which wasn’t worth the price. The fresh lime juice was just okay. Overall, the menu seems overpriced for its quality. I wouldn't recommend it for food, but it might be worth a visit for the beverages.

Amazing service and yummy food 😍

One of the best restaurants that we dined in in india until now! The service is very warm and welcoming. We asked to have a seafood platter to try different dishes at once (it was not available on the menu) and the manager M. Senthil obliged us directly! Such helpful and thoughtful people 🥰 The dishes we tried were amazing ! Highly recommend it!

Service was good .. food starters were good . Then the main course was pretty poor for the price charged . The pastas were absolutely tasteless and the Thai green curry was so liquidy. Many items on the menu were not available. Other than the service and starters not much to say . Pretty big letdown for us after a wonderful day of travel and sightseeing. Maybe the chef had a off day …. Not going back here.

Good Ambience...Decent Pan Asian Food

Pro Tip visit this place in the evening as there is less heat and sitting out feels nice with a view of the park in front. The ambiance is awesome and full marks for the balcony layout. The prices are comparatively better than other staples like Cafe Des Artes. The menu seems to have a lot of variety focused on the Pan Asian fare. Named after an iconic commander like Suffren you would expect some more french options. The food plating was pretty good and overall taste is deserves 3.5 stars. The rest room is pretty far away.... yet all in all a decent experience.

Great lunch

Stopped here at the end of our half day tour of Pondicherry. The restaurant was recommended by our guide and what a good recommendation it proved to be. Food was very well cooked and extremely tasty. Our best meal so far on our holiday.

Great place great ambiance and great food. We tried the chicken breast, prawns soup and the fish in lemon sauce and we were happy with the quality and quantity of the food. Beauty and vicky served us and we were happy with their service

Great Place to eat food !!

Great Tall ceiling makes this a worthwhile experience. They have a limited menu, but the food quality is excellent. Even their bar is reasonably well-stocked. Had a nice time. They are situated in the heart of the city on an easily accessible street.

Nice ambiance but disappointing food

The only highlights of this place are their location & ambience otherwise it’s an average place. Situated near the beach, with a balcony dining area this place is gives an ideal vibe but the food was disappointing. Ordered Tomato Capsicum Bruschetta, Veg noodle & Chicken Stroganoff (Chef’s special). Unfortunately didn’t enjoy any of these.

Great food and service. Ambience not to my taste

The verandah seating area was marvellous allowing you to watch the hustle and bustle of the area. The staff were friendly and attentive making excellent recommendations on food and quantity. The mutton dish was fabulous, better than I could have imagined. The neon signs, sports on the TV and photos of food on the place setting might be for some but in my view didn’t add to the ambience.
