Just average in terms of service and food. The environment is pretty good, nice to have a cup of coffee but that's about it.

We tried a couple of times to come here and were generally a bit confused: Day 1 we arrived, having noted that you could not make a reservation, at approx 1330 and were told ‘we’re full but you can wait for 45mins if you like’,...nah dont fancy standing in the street outside for that amount of time with a three year old, ‘let’s try tomorrow’. Day 2, we arrive mid afternoon at about 1500, the security man said the place was closed, the manager said it was open. We eventually get ushered in and found a table. The snacks were nice, the coffee decent and the ambience was pleasant. Nice enough place but a bit confused: maybe accept a reservations, or have some sort of clear queuing system, or indeed be clear of when you’re open or not. Is it worth the confusion? you can decide. For us, we probably won’t bother to come back.More

Highly disrespectful staffs. They are treating Indians in their left hand. They are kidding people who didn't knew about their menu. Very worst experience. Very worst staffs. Please change your cafe name as foreigners cafe. This cafe is only for foreigners not for Indians.

If you want to get discriminated in your own country then please go to this cafe. Being an Indian I was mistreated by the arrogant owner of this cafe. 1) First of all the staff is not at all welcoming to you. They will literally...ignore you while u stand there and wait to get their attention. 2) Secondly the 4 seater or 5 seater table is given to 2 people ( majorly Foreigners) . When the staff knows that they have people in the queue then why the tables are given to all the foreigners and Indians are asked to wait. Basically the staff are polite towards the foreigners and not to their own people. 3)There were few tables reserved but NOT offered to people who were in the queue. 4)I was stopped for taking pictures of the cafe while I was waiting. When asked I was highlighted rudely that it’s mentioned outside the cafe . And that while waiting I’m NOT ALLOWED to take pictures. It’s only when I have ordered food I CAN TAKE PICTURES. 5)If your customers are waiting they will definitely take pictures of the cafe and if the owner does not like that then the owner should put that disclaimer in bold letters at the entrance. Above all atleast learn how to speak politely to females. The owner also said he does not care about the restaurant rating since he already has his own customers. 6)lastly as in Indian I just know that we treat guests like God- Atithi Devo Bhava ,अतिथि देवो भव . But sadly being an Indian i was mistreated by an Indian who definitely does not know our Hindu Philosophy and is sadly still being a slave to the foreign nationals and having a slave mentality.More

I had the unfortunate experience of dining at Des Arts cafe and I have to say, it was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The owner of the cafe has an incredibly bad attitude, especially towards local Indian customers. It was...clear that he was trying to be over pleasing towards the foreigners, while treating the Indian customers with arrogance and disrespect. The owner's behavior was appalling and completely unacceptable. It was clear that he had no interest in providing a welcoming and hospitable environment for all customers. His attitude towards the local Indian customers was nothing short of disgraceful. I would strongly advise anyone considering dining at Des Arts cafe to think twice before giving their business to an establishment with such a disrespectful and arrogant owner. It's a shame that such a beautiful cafe is tainted by the toxic behavior of its owner. I will never be returning and I will be sure to spread the word about the terrible treatment I received.More

Go there if you want to be insulted. Fake demand is created by saying there is waiting and place their own bags to say some ke is already there and after 40 mins move that bag and tell you can sit here when the whole...Place is empty. Beyond this 3 people will rush if you are a foreigner but if you ask for a tissue for your daughter with a running nose their response is - I’m busy A simple request was my Mother is a senior citizen and can you arrange for us to move to a sofa when it gets empty. The lady who is a foreigner bluntly says - sorry we won’t clean two tables for you. And goes to serve a foreigner although 3 people were already servicing her table. We decided walk out and went to Villa Shanti - the hospitality over there was amazing. Even on Google all the low reviews are clearly stating that the demand is fake, they ill treat Indians, the lady looks down upon all Indians and bosses around customers all staffs are busy chatting but don’t bother treating their own country with any respect. I have stayed as the best of places in the world and came to Pondy for a day to relax but the utter disregard she has for Indians is shameful. Can anyone dare do this is any other country - they will be thrown out. Honestly such places should be boycotted and shut down as a lesson for all those tourist places within our country to learn respecting the country where they are working and earning and the lady sent back to her country and dare do the same behaviour there to know what it means to insult the country. Utterly shameful - if anyone doesn’t believe go on Google and read. All reviews are them ill treating Indians. Boycott this placeMore

The building is beautiful and is well worth a visit for that alone. However as others have said the service is not great, when we arrived and ordered the member of staff who served us informed us some menu items were no longer available; that's...not a problem, it just means a busy venue. So we were given advice on alternative options. Then after waiting 15 minutes or so we were then told that the majority of our (as advised by staff) alternative items were also not available and that just seemed like poor service. So location great, staff friendliness great, staff competency poor. Still worth a visit, but just for drinks unless very early in service or if you are happy with very limited options for food.More

The most attractive features of this place are decor and ambience. Not so many vegetarian/ vegan options, what we had was medium quality, cake ok, lassi made with unripe fruit. The service is not attentive, extremely relaxed. Attractive place for a Western client.

So no travelogue or travel itinerary of Pondicherry doesn’t feature this cafe. You’d think must be great. The long queue outside the cafe, you’d think can’t wait for my turn. We had to wait about 15 mins to get in. It’s an old time house...converted into a cafe. The decor is from the same house - furniture, pics etc. The space can definitely be used better as there are bigger tables with fewer people sitting everywhere. The place does have a quiet charm, but the hype before it probably left me a little dejected. We had coffee and sandwich - both great. The service was good too. The menu can definitely be enhanced. The outside murals are a definite win for them, as we didn’t see the wall empty ever during all our walks outside the cafe.More

My wife and me ordered the same Poached eggs at the same time but my order reached me after 20 mins. When we wanted to clear the bill with cash they said they don't accept Rs.2000 notes. It was not the lady manager who refused to accept the Rs.2000 notes...but the bearded gentlemen who also manages the place....More

If you’re in Pondicherry it is one of the best places to have breakfast. Totally loved the atmosphere. They have delicious food, calming ambience and loads of French awesomeness. The decor too is quite catchy, something you will fall for at first sight. You can...unwind and relax with some books, board games or simply soak in the awesome ambience.More
