After a stunning walk through the gorge we crossed over to the winery for lunch. Food and wine was excellent. As was the service and hospitality. Totally relaxed dining in the sunny courtyard. The kids amused themselves with the resident dog and cat. It was great to be able to take advantage of a children's menu here too. Can't recommend... More

We always stop here when travelling through the Karangahake Gorge. The hospitality is second to none - friendly and welcoming, no matter how busy, with gorgeous food, beautifully presented in a wonderful, 'tucked away' setting (we love to sit outside if fine, but it is always toasty inside in the cool weather.

Perfect, following our walk around the Gorge and tunnel we decided to try Ohinemuri Estate Winery for a light lunch. We were warmly greeted on entering the reception area and shown to our table. Cold water was provided and a menu given with time to peruse before making our choices. Specials were explained and we made our choices. Food, coffees... More

Lovely country restaurant/winery. The venison burger was excellent, the seafood chowder only average. Try the Taniwha blended red wine - lovely taste.(it does not taste like 'ribena for adults' as described on the wine list) Friendly staff and indoor/outdoor dining options. Car parking is restricted next to the restaurant but there is plenty of parking on the riverside across the... More

Stopped in here on a trip over the gorge. Lovely friendly service and amazing food. The handmade bread and dips were delicious as was the gnocchi. Great place to spend some chill time.

Stopped here on our way from Tauranga to Auckland. We were greeted by the incredibly friendly resident kitty (22 years old and as adorable as a kitten). Had the Bruschetta and a bottle of the Sauvignon Blanc. Great food and atmosphere, this place is small and removed but attention is paid to the important details.... the food and wine. Definitely... We've passed by several times and always wished that we had time to stop for lunch. Today we made it our destination and we were not disappointed. The setting, the service, the food and the staff all made for a wonderful afternoon. Both the stacked salmon and quinoa salad were cooked and flavoured to perfection. The warm basil pesto bread... If you are visiting Karangahake Gorge you must treat yourself to Ohinemuri Estate Winery and Restaurant. It is set up high above the Gorge road and car park. The Restaurant nestles under tree ferns and palms. The food, wine and coffee are second to none. You are welcomed like old friends when you first venture in. The Winery has a... More

We stumbled upon this gem while walking around K gorge. Our group of 11 chose two snack plates to share with extra bread. The snacks were remarkable with tastes of lemon mustard and kebabs, figs, cheeses, cranberry, garlic butter, salami, beetroot - I cant remember them all ! For drinks I decided to go all out and get the "degustation"... More

Description
The Estate is in the heart of the Karangahake Gorge. It is only 200 meters from the tunnel portal of the main walking/cycle trail and has its own access from there. It could not be easier. The Karangahake end of the Gorge offers fantastic tracks, many of them loops of differing lengths. There is a huge amount of history and scenic attraction in the area and the winery and restaurant are a well-deserved treat. Karyn, the chef, prepares wonderful gourmet food, which complements Horst's lovely range of wines. The summer garden setting is relaxed and peaceful and a wonderful interlude between walking or biking. In winter there is an open fire. Platters, full or light meals are available
