Have visited many times and always enjoyed the food. Sadly very poor service on my most recent visit. Waitress was quite patronising. Hopefully just a one off and not a change of owner as the food and wine continue to excel.

We stumbled upon is place at the end of the tunnel after spending a few hours exploring the gorge with my friend and her kids. They needed a drink and we felt we'd earned a wine so made the stop - so glad we did!...More

Came after a walk at the Gorge. Got some nice wine and a delicious sharing platter. Was a bit expensive, but worth it. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. Would come back.

We have been many times to this restaurant, usually after a walk around Karangahake Gorge. Good friendly service and nice outdoor eating area. It's not very big but is quite charming

Description
The Estate is in the heart of the Karangahake Gorge. It is only 200 meters from the tunnel portal of the main walking/cycle trail and has its own access from there. It could not be easier. The Karangahake end of the Gorge offers fantastic tracks, many of them loops of differing lengths. There is a huge amount of history and scenic attraction in the area and the winery and restaurant are a well-deserved treat. Karyn, the chef, prepares wonderful gourmet food, which complements Horst's lovely range of wines. The summer garden setting is relaxed and peaceful and a wonderful interlude between walking or biking. In winter there is an open fire. Platters, full or light meals are available
