Called in for lunch after a fabulous walk. I ordered a steak sandwich which comprised of steak red onion and cheese piled into a hollowed out crusty roll. Served with very tasty chips and a salad but the piece de resistance was the jug of LUSH gravy. I have seldom had a nicer sandwich. I was made extremely welcome with... More

Visiting friends who were staying in nearby Griffon Forest, they had been in the night before as it was dog friendly. They were a bit unsure about taking us as the night before they said the seats were a bit 'dog hairy'and didnt think we'd find it 'up to our standards'...(we don't have a dog) how wrong they were! All... More

We holidayed for a week near Castle Howard and went to the Stone Trough Inn on two occasions - once for lunch and one for dinner. The staff were extremely friendly, the menu was great and the food was excellent - highly recommended!

Whilst the hardy swimmers plunged into the river, i chair open water swam in this most welcoming of Inns! I walked in to find a beautiful hound peaceably begging its owner for one of a jar full of dog treats behind the counter. Despite never being there before it felt like i had walked into my local. Friendly, supportive staff,... More

Ordered the polenta vegetarian option for £13.50 expecting something different and interesting. What we received was a small burger sized disc of polenta which tasted a lot like a stock cube and topped with a few asparagus sprigs, a few bits of broccoli and half a tomato which wasn't very filling especially for the high price. Told the waitress who... More

We decided against a starter as the portion size is generous. We were not disappointed. My soon to be daughter-in-law and I had beer... More
