We arrived in Whangamata on a Monday evening to find several restaurants closed, it being Valentine's Day the next day so were opening for then. Argo seemed a little more expensive but in the end decided to go. So glad we did, the fish dish of the day and the pork belly were worth every penny (or should that be... More

Great place with amazing food, great service and a very yummy dessert. Bit outside the town centre, within walking distance from the beach. Try the Trio of chocolate, but if you do, save space for it on the mains...

This New Zealand country restaurant is situated in a holiday beach location with food and service way superior to what you would expect. The owners really really do try hard! The service was excellent without being intrusive. The food offerings were plentiful using good quality fresh produce prepared and presented to a very high standard. Their wine list was extensive... The food was delicious and very well presented, and more importantly for us: decent sizes! Prompt service by very friendly staff. Hardly any waiting time, comfortable surroundings. The dessert (lemon meringue curd) was the best dessert we have tasted during our holiday of 2 weeks:-)

familh went for Sunday evening twenty dollar meals. We all ordered a different option. The Asian meal full of coriander that it wasn't able to be finished. The battered mussels and chips was made using marinated mussels as we could taste the vinegar , sadly it wouldn't be my first to go back to, although staff and atmosphere was fine

Margaret W, Owner at Argo Restaurant and Wine Bar, responded to this review

We reply to your review dated yesterday- we do not have battered mussels on our Sunday $20 menu. We are sorry to hear that you felt there was too much coriander in this dish as our servings are always the same for each portion and this particular dish has been very popular with many of our customers.
