We walked into Old Barga over the little bridge and past the UK telephone box and then up the steep narrow hill into the square. There was da Aristo and so we sat down for a beer and ended up with beer and wine and...a plate (or rather a table) of local meats and salamis. Lovely service from a friendly waitress too. Had aperitif and dinner: soup was excellent, the marinated fish out of this world! Giovanni is the heart of Barga. You must visit this place for an amazing typical family style experience.

Da Aristo is unique; it is more than a bar. From morning coffee and pastry, lunchtime snack, afternoon aperitivo, evening entertainment to late night drink, Aristos has it all. Lorenzo, Giovanni, Antonella and Federica are always welcoming and attentive.

There's no better place to watch the comings and goings in Barga. Sit in the piazza, enjoy a glass of wine, become part of the slower way of life that defines how we all should be living. Simple pleasures.

Going to Aristo and meeting Aristo are a must if you are in Barga. He's down-to-earth and no-nonsense, and he wants you to enjoy what he gives you, whether it's a cafe or a meal. Ok so we fancied going here after reading some good reviews. The owner makes the place, he really does. Nice, friendly but I think his lack of English or my lack of Italian?? We ordered the selection of cold meats and cheese for our starters...as it was a limited menu, no polenta dishes and I’m not a fan of quiche. The meat and cheese were lovely and at least 7 different meats and cheeses. For mains we only had 2 choices really, beef or pork so we ordered both, one each. This is were I hope the language barrier broke down. When the mains arrived they were again cold meats with a bit of celeriac and wall nuts sprinkled on them, basically the samw meat we had just had for sterters so we politely ate 2-3 slices of each, paid up and left. I hope that most places would’ve explained that we ordered cold meats followed by cold meats but that wasn’t the case. Not sure why the menu was limited but that was all we had. We came away disappointed due to the owner and staff being friendly but in sll honesty, wasn’t a good experience for us. 40 euros for a selection of meats seems harsh but maybe it was as much our fault as it was his.More

A glass of red for €1.50! Peroni on tap for €4. Nice meats and cheeses. Great setting. And what a character the owner is!
